A quick description of what NERV does in the fictional world of Evangelion:

Here at NERV we strive to continually keep the citizens of Tokyo-3 out of harm’s way of the Angels. In order to do that we need to use these gigantic robotic machines to fight them, they are called Evangelions, Eva's for short. With these magnificent machines we fight against the Angels and stop them in their path to bring havoc.
