Lots of people who've never used mods before joining the server, so here's a quick guide to getting set up

SERVER IP (including port): 66.7.125.105:45535

Message me to be added to the list. It's starting blank, so everyone needs to be added again.

HOW2CRAFTMINES
Go to http://feed-the-beast.com/ and get the Client Download
It's not an installer, so just put it somewhere and run it
Select the Direwolf20 Minecraft Version 1.6.4
!! Right above the logo on the right side will be a drop-down that says 'Recommended'. Change it to '1.0.14'. !!
Click 'Select Profile' and choose 'Create Profile'
Put in your minecraft info, save the profile, and hit Launch!
It may take a minute to download, and it will definitely take a couple minutes to start up. Just be patient and don't freak out if it sticks around on the Mojang screen for a while.

TIPS
Go into your keyconfig (menu - options - controls) and look at it. Just look at that ♥♥♥♥. And realize you'll only care about half of it. If you run into any issues with overlapping keys, this is where you'll fix them. I recommend assigning a 'dead' key (like Numpad0) for keys you don't want to use.
Press whatever key is bound to [Opis] Next Map Mode. BAM, you have a minimap.
Remember the [Opis] keys, they're how you keep from getting lost in this crazy new world.
type '/amuicfg', click 'options', and turn on 'minimal hud' and 'numeric'
This will disable your mana bars unless you're actually holding a spell or wand
Open your inventory. See that huge mess of items on the right side? It can be sorted with the black text box on the bottom. It contains every item in the game, and if you mouse over one and press 'R' you can see the recipe to make it. Typing in the name of a mod (like Industrialcraft or Thaumcraft) will show all items that mod adds to the game.

GETTING STARTED
It's best to focus on one or two mods first and learn them pretty well before branching out. I suggest not trying to do both magic mods at once because they can get resource intensive.

MAGIC MODS
These two mods have their own tutorial and guide built into the game, which is great for beginners. Unfortunately they get resource-hungry pretty quickly.
Ars Magica - 'Light' magic
Get yourself an item frame and a book, and find a pool of Liquid Essence. It's the bluegreen water that glows slightly. Set the book up in the frame next to the pool and watch the magic begin!
Thaumcraft - 'Dark' magic
Make a wooden wand (2 endcaps made of 5 iron nuggets each, and a stick) and use it to rightclick on a bookshelf. This will create your tome of forbidden knowledge...
TECHNOLOGY MODS
These mods are designed to make mining easier and more profitable, up to the point where you'll never have to lift a pick again and be drowning in gold and diamonds! They all require redstone to get started, so dig deep.
Industrialcraft
Get some iron ingots and make yourself a Forge Hammer and Cutter, use those to pound out some sheet metal and cut some wires to make a generator, batbox, and some low-tier machines like a macerator and electric furnace. You'll need to find some rubber trees (they look like they're giving the world the middle finger) to make the wires.
The official wiki isn't up to date yet, so have fun figuring out what things do on your own :D
Thermal Expansion
Slap together a chute, a couple steam dynamos, a pulverizer, and a redstone furnace. Play with the configuration until you get a setup that takes ore in one end and deposits finished ingots into a chest.
Tinkers' Construct
Even I've never used this mod before, read the manual (Materials and You) and try forging your own tools from molten metal!
