GOD BLESS AMERICA

Born American, raised American, living in America, and God willing, I'll die in America. America isn't just a country, it's an ideal. Nationalism can go suck itself, as can communism, or monarchism, or any other sort of -ism that wants to tell people how to be. Liberals probably love that line, but they're missing a key factor, namely success.

You actually can't be whoever you want to be. No nation on earth is going to grant you the ability to be a silly person, no structure in life allows it. If you're self-detructive, you're self-destructive. That's the great thing about the American ideal. You can succeed, but you can also fail. So many people see it the wrong way, they see it as a promise of success.

There is no promise of success. There never has been for anyone. If you want a promise of success, join a monastaery where you move beyond worldly concenrs. There's peace in Christ, I can speak for that, and you're looking at it now. America is opportunity, it's the desire of the human condition. If it ever ceases to be that, what do you think will take its place? Maybe something else, through some vast imagining, but so long as the human spirit lives, America lives as well.
