"The Old and Bold"

The 2nd Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly called The Green Howards, was frequently known as the Yorkshire Regiment until the 1920s. It was an infantry regiment of the British Army, in the King's Division. Raised in 1688, it served under various titles until it was amalgamated with The Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire and The Duke of Wellington's Regiment, all Yorkshire-based regiments in the King's Division, to form The Yorkshire Regiment on 6 June 2006. Today it serves as light role infantry, based at Salamanca Barracks, Episkopi in Cyprus as The 'Resident Infantry Battalion' and as Theatre Reserve Battalion. It is equipped with a range of small arms and support weapons, and is at high readiness to move rapidly anywhere in the region.

2 YORKS Company Groups continue to rotate through Reception, Staging, and Onward Integration Training (RSOI-T) in Afghanistan to maintain and update current Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs). Both Fire Support Group (FSG) and Mortar Platoons have conducted their specialist weapon cadres ensuring they are ready to support the Rifle Companies and the Battalion when required. The Battalion’s Lead Company will also assume the role as Commander British Forces Cyprus’s reserve, a Public Order trained company, able to assist the local authorities in the case of any civil unrest on the island.
