HISTORY IN NORTH AND SOUTH
The Regiment has gone under many names in the past, such as 72nd Pennsylvania, 5th Texas, and 13th Iowa. Due to lack of interest and overall bordom the regiment was disbanded for a time being to allow for a break. We are back and ready to ride where ever we are needed. We need you, to make our Regiment as great as it was in real life
~17thIN Co. D Capt. Owens, Northern Iron Brigade, Shelby's Iron Army

REGIMENTAL HISTORY
The 17th Indiana Company D, was raised in Johnson County Indiana right outside of Indianapolis. The Regiment was mustered into service May 1861 in Camp Morton. The regiment was camped in Camp Wickliffe until 1862 when it began its journey south, taking part in the Siege of Corinth. and proceeded to peruse CSA General Forrester and skirmished Bragg's Vanguard until October 18th 1862, when it headed back to camp at Nashville. The regiment went on many expeditions, until it was mounted and sent on scouting expeditions in May of 1863. The regiment was engaged in a skirmish at Hoover's Gap, where it repulsed several charges taking 75 Confederate Prisoners and losing 48 of their own, all while facing far superior numbers. Next the regiment moved on to Chickamauga, and after many skirmishes and the final battle it would make a name for itself and earn, along with the other regiments in their brigade, The Lightning Brigade. While the Union was in full retreat, John Wilder and his brigade held off almost the entire rebel army. The regiment then moved south, to Huntsville where it made camp for the rest of the year. They proceeded to fight wherever needed for the rest of the war, partaking in engagements at Pumpkin Vine creek, Big Shanty, Belle Plain road, Kennesaw mountain, Marietta, Chattahoochee river, Stone mountain, Flatrock, New Hope Church, Rome and Coosaville. The final battle the regiment fought was the taking of Macon Georgia, where it captured 3,000 prisoners including Generals Howell Cobb, Mackall, Mercer and G.W. Smith. The regiment remained in Macon until it was mustered out in August of 1865. The casualties were 232 Killed and 82 missing in action.
