ABOUT 16-Bit's Unturned Server

Top Secret Treehouse Club

A few thuds and a moan or two. “How unprofessional” I thought. Joyce wasn’t being fired, she was getting railed by the Boss. I couldn’t believe it. I looked outside the windows again. There was a lot more people down there now. Then a louder banging noise from the Boss’ office, this time it sounded like he was punching the door. Tyler, one of my not-so-smart colleagues, got up to see if everything was okay. He opened the door a crack and stuck his head in. By now the entire office was watching. He screamed and stumbled backwards to the floor holding his neck. Joyce, pale as death, came shuffling out of the office, followed by the Boss who wasn’t looking too pretty himself. He was missing his bottom lip. I guess the office was in shock because we just kind of watched as the Boss bent down and started eating Tyler’s face. Joyce started making her way around the cubicles looking for more victims. That’s when everyone panicked. One guy ran for the door to the stairs and pushed it open. That was a bad idea.

I guess the dead from town had found a way inside the building and made their way up the stairs. That’s why when the Prime Minister’s speech came on after lunch there was hardly any in the streets: they had been climbing up the stairs the entire time. Well they were here now. About five of them stumbled into our office and overwhelmed anybody near the door. The stairs were choked with walking corpses, so going down was not an option, and I wasn’t about to try the elevator because who knows what would greet me when the doors opened.

Up. I could only go up. Lucky for the top floor, there are a separate set of stairs that lead to the roof. I made a break for it, practically leaping over the Boss (who was still eating Tyler) towards the exit. The sky was positively buzzing with helicopters: news, military, civilian. I started trying to wave them down when I heard the door behind me open and close. Can you believe it? The Boss had followed me all the way up the stairs. He’d probably come to reprimand me for not finishing that report from beyond the grave, the prick. He stretched out his arms and started shuffling towards me. I think I lost it. I picked up this piece of pipe and cracked him right over the head. I don’t even remember the chopper landing. The pilot said he found me wearing a huge grin beating the Boss’ head in over and over again. We flew to a Safe Zone, picking up a few others on the way. Alan, the pilot, said we all had that same look in our eye: a little crazed, yet determined. Whatever it takes to survive, right?
