Controllers (Mac)

I have a generic PS2 style controller connected via USB - I can modify and test all the buttons and things in the Steam settings, but if I try to launch Feather only the keyboard and mouse control things. Not sure what combination of settings I am supposed to adjust in Steam, or if I am supposed to enable Steam Input, or... yeah I don't know! There are a lot of toggles and I can't seem to get Feather to respond to my controller....
