I wish to start this review with a warning that there will be some spoilers. I don't want to give this game a negative review and wish there was a middle of the road option. My bias is in the FMV style of the game and without that this game would not be worth it. In 30 minutes we learn nothing about the background of the world, we get weird unprompted backstory just introduced and the writing feels all over the place and that is me being generous.

To start with there is a great many contradictions throughout this story. You are a character who is trying to work past trauma but when you chose options to work past that you get punished unless it involves the ending. Spoilers ahead: In one ending if you chose to run you live but are called a coward and insulted for doing it, however in earlier parts of the story if you chose any of the non-coward options it is a dead end most of the time. It really feels like the writing of this game was done with large gaps in between where they just forgot elements they wrote.

Another example of this is your mother in the intro scene, and in a part of the story actively tells you that you shouldn't of come here but then there is an ending where she praises you for coming here and helping your client. Which just feels backwards.

The final biggest gripe I have is in the ending you are called a coward, if you chose the fight option you then learn you were doing all this to essentially grab a necklace. However they established in one of the lore parts that the creature only stays for 15-20 minutes so why am I punished for choosing the option that involves waiting the creature out and instead get called a coward and have a character complain that you didn't risk your life for a NECKLACE. I understand it was supposed to be some sort of resolution where you conquered your trauma but between risking my life and 15 minutes, I am sorry I am gonna wait out that 15 minutes 99 percent of the time.

Now because I feel I was focusing on the negatives lets move into what I enjoyed about this game and that is pretty much all in the live action FMV scenes, I loved the physical props, the videos, and seeing the physical characters. I think FMVs are ignored in the horror scene too much and deserve more recognition. They create a great medium for consuming a horror game and especially if this was implemented in a VR game where you have to make quick actions where a physical creature is chasing you in a real space.

Now I would only really say get this game on sale even if I enjoyed it. The light effects were too much as other reviews have mentioned. The voice acting was very very flat from everyone outside the main character who put some emotions in their speaking.
