This game certainly has its flaws and is priced too high, but has a good progression and loot grind hook that can keep you playing for hours. While it follows the Bullet Heaven/Survivor-like formula at a basic level, Out of Time does have unique flavor with its cooperative focus and social hub making it feel like a MMO-lite of sorts.

It's coop focus may feel like a issue for those lone wolves out there though because the games does heavily incentivize playing with others since you get more reward options at the end of a level and the game's tether system which allows you to share your full stat pool with your nearby party members to help deal up with the increased scaling mob damage and health extra players bring. On the flip-side though if you enjoy coop, these features are very nice to see. It's not to say that soloing is impossible, but you can expect to be in for a much longer grind if you choose that path or perhaps are just getting stuck on it sometimes due to the small playerbase.

Pros
+ Rewarding long term progression with plenty of power to gain and a variety of cosmetics to collect
+ The coop elements feel strong as you can build you character in various ways to support you party in whatever way feels needed and get to share your stats with the tether system
+ Loot gear has usable abilities attached to it, making it feel a lot more exciting getting a new piece to try
+ Plenty of shared gameplay stats and information while you are playing so you can see how you are performing and have helpful icons on your compass as you speed through your runs

Cons
- The visuals are fine, but it feels a bit too Fortnitey for my taste rather than having a more unique stylized appearance to give it identity
- Could use a better in-game group organizing tool to target specific content
- I've experience some rubberbanding lag which has been a minor annoyance but not too bad
- Online only currently which I hope can be resolved at some point to future proof the game
- Performance can drop quite a bit during intense moments
- Content variety is a bit limited at the moment as despite there being different biomes the gameplay formula is mostly the same between them. This could be resolved through some sort of new end-game activity in addition to engaging social hub activities perhaps in the form of minigames and/or fishing.

I think this is a great new entry in the genre that provides a true coop experience and requires enough player input to keep it engaging instead of mindless walking around while everything attacks for you. It's unfortunately priced far too high and I think this will prevent it from having any kind of growth long term unless they switch to a much cheaper price. I think something like this could do very well with a bit more content variety and polish along with a easier entry barrier to start playing the game whether that be a bargain price or perhaps even free-to-play as long as they stuck with pure cosmetic monetization. I don't think it's quite ready to open the flood gates to the masses just yet, but it certainly has the potential.

The game is fun. The horde survival genre works well in 3D and works really well when grouping up and sharing buffs with your party. Unlike in a typical healer/DPS/Tank game, here you can mix and match your gear and so long as your party has a decent balance of heals and damage, no one needs to specialize as the healer. Unless they want to.
Playing solo is fine, you need to run with a mix of gear to survive and deal damage, but the magic is definitely in the groups.
I think the visual of the string connecting you to your party is a useful trick for making sure no one jets off and leeroy jenkins the rest of the party. Or if they do everyone else has to follow along with them.

Penalizing solo players by making the number of loot choices based on the number of players has to be one of the worst game design choices ever. Instead of punishing people by making the grind four times longer, the incentive for team play should just be faster clears and more fun. You shouldn’t need extra rewards just for playing with others.

This decision is especially bad because the game has been essentially dead since launch. It’s only been a week since release, and it’s already basically impossible to find a game, even with the quick play option. I’ve sat and waited over five minutes and haven’t found a single match. And for the people who are doing runs, they’re all basically at endgame, because the game released on Epic Games Store a month before Steam. So there was already a big divide at launch, separating an already small community.

It’s a fun game that really hits that roguelike itch to play with friends, but the lack of players and these design choices really ruin it.
