I'll be honest, I expected this to be more of a "desktop companion" and less of an... idle clicker game?

The characters in the base game have a *very* limited selection of voicelines and they get repetitive really fast. I truly thought that there would be a lot more customization options, things like background sounds or focus tools like a pomodoro timer or literally anything that would make the desktop bully a "companion". Instead my screen is getting covered in annoying icon popups and the companion keeps repeating the same 5 voice lines every few seconds.

I was hoping the music would be a little more varied in genres as well, since the base game comes with a basic club elevator waiting room tracklist that doesn't really do much aside from distract me (and not in the good way) when I'm trying to study or do work. I know licensing tracks from other musicians would be insanely expensive so having an option to use an external player within the game itself or the ability to import local music tracks would be nice.

Now the biggest problem that I have is the "bullying"... Frankly I thought this was going to be a furry game full of innuendos and the expected teasy degradation and bullying. Instead I just get insulted by a cun-ty poodle, and the insults aren't even innuendos or anything that could even remotely be interpreted as such. The characters are just mean for the sake of being mean. The win and fail states are also sort of boring I guess? The best one for me so far was the "fail" state of the buff wolf and even then it's SOLELY due to the high quality voice actor and the way he refers to me in the end.

All in all I think BBY DON'T HURT ME is more of a proof of concept than an actual finished or fleshed out product. It's really nice that they have a built in feature of making your own character mods with your own voicelines and music but the stuff that comes included in the package just really isn't what I expected. It truly feels like the game is trying to be both a dating sim visual novel and a desktop companion, but it takes the worst parts of both of those things and smashes them together.

I'll be keeping a close eye on this game going forward because I really do hope that the developer/developers can tackle some of these issues or flesh out the game more over time. I'd love to have a bully desktop companion but it would absolutely need to have more customization options (voice line frequency, option to remove the collectable popups, more music, more voicelines, option to adjust character animation velocity...) and the content of the voicelines themselves, I think, would go over better if it wasn't just straight up insults in a game that's clearly going for the furry smut/kink innuendo thing.

Basically a dating sim but in a very bare bones way.

I get abused by some poodle, who wished me being aborted. Well.. I prefer foxes anyway.
