how do you get through it?

Seems the game has no way to save, which is kind of disappointing. Also, I'm a bit stuck, got somewhat far into the game, but stuck where there are ramps and an abstract snake at the bottom, and on the other side, a black spinning portal. Got no idea what to do in this room. Hints please...
