A subset of players is experiencing issues loading their game (I'd guess maybe 1 in 30 players). This can look like the main menu "Load Game" button being grayed out suddenly mid way through a play through, save files triggering a black screen on open, or strange issues when the game loads in.

After trying desperately to figure out what's going on and screaming into a pillow many times, I've come to the conclusion that I don't think I'll be able to fix this issue entirely. Basically, since the game was started 10 years ago, an older unreliable and outdated save format was used in the Plugin I used to build the game. Since the load issues are somewhat uncommon, the beta testers and I never had them appear, and I first had reports of them after the game was launched.

In theory, I could change the save format now, but doing so would invalidate all of EVERYONE'S current save files. This would be out of the question. But what I can do is either fix specific files that are causing issues, or recreate and provide you with a file that puts you back where you need to be.

So, if this happens to you, please reach out! I wouldn't want you to have to replay the game from the beginning, I can help you fix this!

How to do this on Windows:

• Open File Explorer

• Follow this file path. C:\\Users\\(your username)\\AppData\\LocalLow\\Default Cube Games\\Penelope Pendrick and The Art of Deceit

• (If you don't see the AppData folder in your user folder, make sure you go to the "view" tab at the top and check the "Hidden items" box.)

• Send me the .save files that are in there - they should read like pp_0, pp_1, pp_2 etc.

How to do this on Mac:

• Open Finder

• Go to the hidden "library" folder by pressing Shift + Command + G, typing ~/Library, and clicking Go.

• In that folder, go to the folder "Application Support". In there go to the folder "com.Company.ProductName". In this folder you should see some files named pp_0.save, pp_1.save, etc. Please send those in the email.

Once I receive your save files, I can send you a fresh one that you pop back into that folder and you should be good to go :)
