A decent strategy game with great art style and music. It basically takes the fun of 4x game early game exploring and makes a game out of it. Initially the difficulty was very challenging, especially with the second character. That was remedied with a post launch patch that added 3 difficulties.

All in all a fun and challenging strategy/puzzle game that necessitates managing resources and optimization.

What I enjoyed best about Coldridge was the simple but difficult execution of particular "puzzles" that are build up around the contracts you take up from the guild. Your job here is to be a part of the guild expeditions, where you must gather supplies and expand yourself outwards to match the conditions that have been assigned to you.

So you get a contract for x(5) Deer and others like x(2) plains or trees, but you don't see any in the overworld. You have a limited number of rounds (supplies) to discover and acquire those materials while also ensuring you have enough money after the expeditions to pay the guild fees at the end of each sessions.

It's a simple concept that is rather addicting and calming, especially given that they choose to make their graphic elements more cartoonish and vivid.

I don't usually care what a game is about, especially when it comes to political or sensitive topics, so long as the gameplay is fun. I don't recall much of the plot being presented, but I piece it together as something about Cowboys enslaving Indians (Player Character) and forcing them to perform their expeditions with a large debt. I can't say I like this concept, even if it was somewhat true. I may be overlooking the plot, but that's how I saw it as.

The other issue later on is unfair scaling RNG difficulty.

The concept is fantastic, entertaining, and straightforward. However, as you become more involved in the game, it becomes a waste of time when you don't have a chance of winning because you're constantly rerolling your contracts for something you can actually complete in your limited timeframe to make a lot of money while using fewer resources, even with all of the best relics. If they balance out the later elements I could recommend it then.

I like the game. A little different game but still not. I recommend the game to anyone who likes this type of game.
