Excellent game! Definitely a MUST PLAY for fans of dungeon crawling!
Expected playtime: 8 to 14 hours.

You can look around with the mouse while moving through the tiles, unlike other First Person Grid-Based Dungeon Crawlers, which makes exploration much more smoother and satisfying. Combat requires you to aim at the enemies' weak points, which can be quite tricky to hit due to enemy movement and is mostly melee combat. There are a few ranged options, but they're either limited by resources.

Weapons are breakable and the only way to heal is through potions, which are a limited resource. You can only save at Save Statues. Enemies do not respawn. Having said all that, it's a pretty fair and reasonable game all the way through, at least on Hard Difficulty, the second most difficult one. No need to get paranoid over resources and backtrack to save often, but you may better reload every now and then if you used too many resources. There is no difficulty spikes and only 2 areas where you're expected to use resources to overcome them. You can switch Difficulties at any time and there is no achievement related to them.

The enemy roster is pretty good and well distributed throughout the floors of the dungeon. The enemy AI is extremely good. They will camp corners if you do, peeking out of it when their attack animation is ready to go. They will rush to you without hesitation if you're hitting them with ranged weapons. Sometimes they'll switch their paths and go for the flank if you're trying to exploit their behavior abusing corners. They'll be passive if you are. Aside from that, enemies have different weak points that you have to figure out, which isn't hard, but some of them require a few kills until you understand them. Their head movement is quite erratic, making the combat more enjoyable.

Some of the enemy gimmicks include: Teleporting to your side or back, moving through walls, masks that attack independently from their weapons, flying with super erratic movement and volatile speed, setting up traps on the floor, moving diagonally (this one is universal to all enemies).

Puzzles are on the easy side, both execution puzzles and brain puzzles, but they're a nice change of pace from the combat. There is also no super strong item locked behind a puzzle, so no need to worry about it.

You're not required to solve all puzzles for 100% achievements, but a good chunk of them still. There is no achievements related to Difficulty Setting.

Summary:
- Atmosphere/Immersion = good
- Combat and enemy variety = good
- Soft survival aspects with breakable weapons and limited healing
- Puzzles on the easy side
- No flaws, given what the game set it out to do.
Dare I say a step above Legend of Grimrock 2. At least base game, as some of the Custom Campaigns from that game still remain at the top of the mountain.

Plays wonderfully on steamdeck. a fantastic game, great puzzles and combat. i just need to find the tower in real life

Tower of Mask is a very enjoyable Legend of Grimlock inspired dungeon crawler with a slight horror bend to it. Emphasis on slight, as the horror is very minimal, the occasional jumpscare from a monster popping out of the shadows but nothing too spooky. Combat is simple, but there is some satisfying depth in trying to hit enemy weakpoints and using the stagger it causes to maneuver around them. The puzzles and exploration is similarly on the simple side, but satisfying.

It has what I would describe as the perfect length, with getting 100% of achievements taking me about 11 hours, and I encountered no bugs during that playtime. The game doesn't overstay it's welcome, giving you a tight and enjoyable romp. If you're a veteran of this genre nothing here is going to surprise you, but it's polished and absolutely worth your time. For people who don't have much experience with dungeon crawlers, I think this is an excellent entry to start with.
