Goofy fun game but looks like alot was removed from its original take which is disappointing

COME ON!!! OVER HERE!!! FALLOW ME!!!!

I played the original Dead Rising game religiously, way back in the day on my Xbox 360. I think this is the definitive version that everybody should play.

The game runs well, I am about halfway through the main story and have not experienced any slowdowns, glitches, crashes, or basically anything bad. Frame rates seem to be smooth, I have not noticed any hiccups or stuttering... Basically, from my experience, this is a well made game. It looks good, runs well, and is tons of fun to play with sharp controls that improve upon the original in meaningful ways.

The pacing of the game, like the original, can be a little bit hectic if you are a perfectionist. There are multiple endings to this game, and some involve you NOT completing everything on time, so do not feel like you have to run around like a mad man trying to hit all these deadlines at once if you are finding it frustrating. You can always enjoy the game casually first, and then go for the perfect run later when you know what you are doing. It is just about possible to do everything on time, but without making use of short cuts it can be down to the wire.

The next part of my review is for people who played/loved the original and are wondering how this version compares:

The difficulty has perhaps been reduced slightly, some of the zombies stand idly until you hit them first, but it is not a dramatic change. The survivors you have to rescue and drag back to base are MUCH more intelligent, and I have found that once they 'join' me, for the most part I can just run to the next load zone and wait for them to catch up - I wonder if the zombies are not simulated so far in the distance which allows them to just freely cross the map without you trying to lead them. It made me wonder if this was a good or a bad change - since I remember hating how useless the survivors were in the original... Now they are not useless, it is almost boring saving them!

Some of the textures/artwork seem to be really obviously AI generated/upscaled, there are a few pieces of signage that are worded badly, and a lot of the banners just feel like they have been done with AI. Little things like capitalisation of certain words/not others, that sort of thing.

The controls/movement are SHARP and it is a pleasure to play. I dug my Playstation 4 out to play the original game and this one is so much better I can't see myself ever going back to the OG version. The new voices took a little bit of getting used to, but now I think I prefer them. Same with the new Frank model - in the original game I felt Frank looked a bit too young to be calling other characters 'kid' and such, but now it all works well and feels correct.

I hear there are mods to increase the difficulty and lower the amount of PP you gain, and if you want an experience similar to the original then by all means look them up, but I have so far found the game to be enjoyable as-is. Some of the bosses feel a little bit weak, but that may just be because I played the original game so much and all the tactics from there still apply here - lots of bosses can be cheesed with a decent weapon and just spamming them quickly before they get the chance to do anything... Like you could with the original!

TLDR: This is great, get it bought!

Pre ordered this game, i absolutely loved it when it came out originally on xbox 360, played it all the way through...But this release is plagued with performance issues. can't move around without the game stuttering when it loads something new, huge stutters every other second

Game ran fine a couple of months ago now i have come back to it and it doesn't even run for 5 minutes and crashes every single time.

Had HIGH hopes for it but they were crushed. Game consistently crashes and just makes for a piss poor experience. DO BETTER CAPCOM!

They took everything fun from the original and got rid of it. Not worth it at full price. Not worth it on sale. Not worth it at all.

Ok .. boy gonna dig into this frozen pizza even though i never reviewed the original DR1 on PC.

first i will say i enjoyed this remake for what it does , but i can't recomend it since the ORIGINAL DR 1 is still available for just 9.99 on steam itself. and some things do annoy me with this remake enough that i likely won't replay it as much as i replayed the original ( keep in mind i played the original on xbox 360 back in 2007 , and i also bought the PC release of it on steam back a few years ago ) boy did the original take forever to make it to pc , which makes this remaster even odder. but on to the review..

the ultra annoying:

Character changes : jessie's body proportions changed to make her less sexy, Frank's changes make him look way older (like mid-late 40's old when he looekd about late 20's early 30's in OG DR). and the worse... changing the butcher from chinese american to a caucasian american. just why ?

voices: so many voices redone it might as well been a remake not a remaster , why could they not keep the OG voices ?

removal of Picture genres: more specifically the erotica genre. i had to mod it back in and the mod for it , scraps a newer genre making certain things impossible to complete. but it's Woke BS as to why the genre was scraped at all. why do they need to "correct" a game's design aspect in a remaster ? again why not do a full remake if that is your objective.

price; even on sale , i had to toss down 30 bucks for a game I already owned on steam , and xbox 360 , but i wanted to see what graphical improvements they did and i do love this series a bit too much.

not enough of a graphical update : while pretty ( see positives) , i feel this update wasn't quite enough .. it offers DLSS/FSR/XESS but unles you got acomplete fossilized dinosaur of a potatoe for a PC. these techs seem kinda pointless for this game .. it offers no RT and even at max settings with out dlss , it's only using 5.90 GB of vram (which is odd since i got textures set to HIgh 8GB) . it begs the question why this remaster even exist ? even the RE remakes got some kind of RT usage . idk , maybe it's there and just "always on" and there no options for it , but if so i'm not seeing it , not with that low of vram usage.

the good :

The story stayed the same as it's just a remaster;

The graphic updates are obvious and it is pretty , but i'd argue the original was still pretty itself even if just a little behind today's standards. the PC version even more so since it too supports higher resolutions.

you can move while shooting . one of the only draw back to the original , is the in-ability to shoot guns on the go . but let's be honest ...{spoiller warning} most of us just used the clown psycho's hand chain saw , or the katana . you can make short work of the game with either of those two and never goof with the guns. the clown's hand chain saw even more so , as they constantly spawn at the rollercoaster and you can nab two books (engineering and crime ) to make the chainsaw last 6 times as long. it such an OP weapon. but any way if you like to run and gun, the remake has that. no more stopping to shoot

smarter AI: the biggest reason to get this remaster .. the survivors you have to save , are much smarter. they get stuck less , follow you better , and if you give them a gun like the shot gun , they won't constantly shoot lead up your ass trying to shoot zombies you are actively fighting and instead aim for ones that you aren't engaging.



so that sums it up . I love the OG dead rising but quite a few nitpicks leave me unable to really rate this remaster very high, i'd give it a 7 outta 10 or 70% outta of 100% which every system you prefer. it's not a bad experience , but capcom's modern meddlings for the thumb sucking neon hair colored crowd brings it down some. if you don't mind self censorship and erasure of "history" by all means get this version. however , if you want to play old games the way the OG dev's intended them , save yourself 40 bucks a use the store search to find the OG Dead rising , for just 9.99.

I decided to play this, this week had high hopes don't really like reading reviews only the funny ones but the majority of them are right its a soulless cash grab. Nothings worst then a beloved title given to some dumb moron that farts is the bath tub like the true ♥♥♥♥♥♥ they are. Hard to believe they dropped the ball this hard it was an open book test the person who made is more then likely is the person who sniffed glue and sharpie pens in the janitor closet with the consent of his stripper mom. It would have been better if they just re-skinned the old one I hope theyre fired and working the streets.
