If you watched Penny Arcade stream[t.co] Writer’s Block recently, you might have noticed some new enemies and items you haven’t encountered before.

That’s because Tycho was playing our new and improved demo, and now you can play it too!

Features include:

A New Final Boss!

Test your mettle against the Block Knight, an almost invulnerable foe with one weakness to exploit.

Two New Regular Enemies!

Take on the toxic Frosted Drake and the ferocious Wherewolf.

New Events!

Visit an event node to encounter new stories, perils, and rewards!

Many New Items!

Wield your Point of View! Equip Assonance! Dominate with a Frame Narrative! Unleash Gibberish!

New Environmental Art!

The world of fiction has a bit more variety! A wider mix of background art will appear during combat.

Quality Of Life Upgrades!

We’ve also patched a host of bugs and added many small but important upgrades, like improved UI and better VFX.

Removed final boss Jitterbog while we clarify respawning mechanic
Removed literary device Volta (ability to sell items is not that useful in a short demo)

Bug Fixes

Improved keyboard’s automatic tile prioritization
Fixed tooltip sizing
Patched bugs affecting animation, tile VFX, item UI, item effects, tile generation, reward collection, event choices, event outcomes, icon placement, and many other things

Bug reports and suggestions?

I don't see any place to leave bug reports or suggestions (other than the feedback form, which doesn't seem ideal), so I guess I'll leave it here. Great game so far! I can see myself buying this. It looks very polished already in the Alpha stage. Bugs: I had the item that shows you the longest word in the first turn of combat. However, even the basic item showed me the first word in combats and EVENTS. I had not refined it, but I noticed later that if I did it was supposed to also work in events. It d...

Demo Update: We’ve Added Keyboard Support!

In player surveys one of the most common requests for Writer’s Block has been the option to use your keyboard to spell words.

We’re happy to announce that feature is in our demo right now! Update the game on Steam and check it out.

When there are multiples of the same letter, our tile selector will try to use the most helpful choice, with a priority on getting rid of harmful tiles and using beneficial tiles. You still have the option of clicking your way to victory if that’s your preference or when you want extra control.

This update also includes some bug fixes and rebalancing. Play through it and you’ll notice some of the enemies might be a tad easier or harder, or may have a new ability.

Final Boss Weird Behaviour

I kept bringing Jitterbog's HP to zero, but then he would get right back up. Then he just died without warning. Unsure if I "solved" the challenge somehow, or whether it was a matter of rinse and repeat.

Can't install Demo

Anyone else have that experience? When I click on the 'Install Demo' button on the steam page, it just gives me a short loading cursor and then nothing happens (the usual pop up where to install it, doesn't show up). It works perfectly on plenty other games, but not with this one. I restarted steam and it didn't help either. Anyone have a solution for this?...

What are you supposed to do at events? You get some options but can't click on them or write the number to choose one? Have skipped one and got one by writing "fir", doesn't make sense. Otherwise an excellent game, keep it up.
