Release Less Than 2 Weeks Away - Linux + SteamOS Version Announced ??

DEAD LETTER DEPT. ARRIVING JANUARY 30TH FOR
WINDOWS + LINUX / STEAM OS

It's a long story really. What began as a casual investigation into making sure the game functionally runs on Steam Deck, turned into: 'Oh, the game appears to run surprisingly well on Linux???' Frankly I anticipated random filesystem explosions and graphical razorblades to have to solve for this, like with any port. But nope? It's been tested on 4 different distros (Zorin, Arch, Ubuntu, and the SteamOS of course) and appears to run pretty identical to its Windows counterpart. So I think that's cautiously optimistic enough results to try.

Frankly making a Linux version automatically solves a MASSIVE GAMEBREAKING VIDEO CODEC issue if the game would be run under Proton (on the Steam Deck), so I might as just publish a Linux version.

I realize the Linux user demand for this game isn't necessarily huge (to be fair I haven't listed it as Linux supported yet either), but I'm willing to give it a fair shot. Linux fascinates and terrifies.

No volume controls?

I was really interested in the concept of the game, but I opened the demo to find there's no volume controls in the settings at all, which causes me problems as I need to be able to adjust volume settings on the fly without resorting to messing with my windows settings. I wish you all the luck on the release of your game and I hope that the full release will have properly adjustable settings....

It's been a strange & difficult path but it is with great pleasure I'm able to announce DEAD LETTER DEPT. is finally going to be arriving on STEAM, this month on January 30th.

Taking a temp job while you get situated in a new city, you are tasked with data-entry-like work of typing up the words and addresses on mail & letters that were not deliverable- due to bad handwriting or other odd reasons. As the days pass, strange stories begin to emerge from the mail, you can't ever shake this feeling you're being watched.

Working in a dingy warehouse, isolated from anyone and everyone, your only connection to the outside world are glimpses of letters that couldn't reach their destination. As time goes on, working conditions become questionable and dreamlike. Oddities and cracks begin to appear. Making money for rent is important, but at what cost.

Thank you for your patience all this time. I'm happy to finally present the new full trailer for DEAD LETTER DEPT. to celebrate the game coming close to being completed. Let me know what you think.

DEAD LETTER DEPT. is an experimental typing horror game experience, placing you as a transplant moving to a new city working in a temp job- helping to transcribe undelivered mail that failed automated computer recognition. Whether because the mail was damaged, the handwriting was illegible, or something worse. Working in a dingy warehouse, isolated from anyone and everyone, your only connection to the outside world are glimpses of letters that couldn't reach their destination.

You use your computer keyboard to type in various prompts presented, and attempt to decipher damaged images. As time goes on, working conditions become questionable and dreamlike. Oddities and cracks begin to appear. Making money for rent is important, but at what cost.

Some of the mail...

One of the letters i just couldn't understand, due to this smudge on it. Dear Valued customer, etc, etc and then I typed in Dawson Lake and then the next line was ALL smudge save for the IL, 60- (something) and even with suggestions I could not for the life of me figure it out! I am so flippin' confused on that one particular letter... I just sort of felt frustrated after that T_T...

I haven't seen any new updates/information on this game since last year. Is it still being developed, or has it unfortunately been shelved?

Possible Bug-SPOILERS

So far the game has been great fun! It is rather simple and easy to understand and the hardest part is actually reading some of the horrible writing lol. I was playing and it was all going smoothly but I got to the spot with the creature demon face on it and it wouldn't proceed. I tried the combination of keyboard strokes that were on the computer but it wouldn't flip the thing over or anything. I unfortunately couldn't figure out if it was a bug or if I am just oblivious to the obvious currently...

Can't look around

Mouselook isn't working at all. It also leaves an annoying green border around the program in fullscreen mode that bleeds on to my second screen. (And just in case it comes up, no, I don't have a controller plugged in.)
