I have been enjoying the game so far, in fact I love the game despite some short comings like performance issues, small bugs and other design choices that I dont like as much (Not being able to destroy empty buildings, what?), so much so I also got the supporter edition because the game is so much fun.

But there is a pretty big bug in the game where you can't load saves because the game crashes during loading screen and the devs are just saying, we know, no eta to fix in a very difficult way to find.

With 26 hours in, refund is no longer possible (not really wanted) and there is no clear communication from the devs on a fix or at least an estimation, I have to give a negative review to warn others to wait until this game is updated to consider buying it

The devs stepped up and worked hard to fix this critical bug, in fact even reached out to some community members to test the fix in a private beta branch, and once things worked out they released the update fully fixing the crash on load issue for everyone :)

So to be fair with the dev team, I'm updating my review to reflect this update and my endorsement of Survive The Fall

I dont write many reviews, but I wanted to share my impressions of the game after 18 hours in.

Overall, I like the game. It took a little bit to understand some of the mechanics, but my people are not hungry and my camp is slowly upgrading. I am playing on "normal" mode, no way near ready for harder modes.

My main observations:

1. This game isn't intuitive. I am constantly scanning the discussion board or Google to answer questions.
2. Maybe I have a setting wrong, but the third person overhead view is too limited. I literally stumble into enemies without knowing they are there until too late. I would like more forward looking ability.
3. Trinkets are nice adds for the work spaces, but again, I didn't see anywhere that showed how to use them.
4. No mini map means I am constantly stopping to check the map to see where I am or where I need to go.
5. Combat spacing seems off. Probably me, but my guys almost get on top of an enemy in melee and do no damage.
6. I would like a popup box when I can't use something do to "lack of knowledge or technology" so I know what I should research towards.

Overall, I am having an enjoyable experience and I believe the game has room to grow.

Very buggy, short, unfinished game with identiy crisis.

What can you expect? Linear mainstory with ~20 sidequests in 3 big areas from woods to city ruins and finally a "wasteland". The quests could be done in i guess 10-15hrs at best. The problem: you're forced to grind loot, every 100m you have to go back to camp to unload loot, upgrade the camp buildings, craft better weapons, armor etc to be able to loot more things and kill later enemies. That's add easily 30hrs without real gameplay fun.

That's also the identiy crisis. The game tries to combine sandbox survival with a linear mainstory and falls short in both. The mainstory itself could have been a classic Fallout 1-2 experience with maybe 20 locations on a worldmap ranging in the small-medium size each. This would have been fine. For survial sandbox the game doesn't respawn enemies, loot etc, the maps are empty after going through one time.

It also seems very rushed. There are signs of locations which were just walled off, the second map in the city ruins has only 25% of playablle area and the last map Wastelands is a total joke with an endboss who eats 70 shotgun shots but does no dmg at all.

Combat: stupid easy, cheesable
- enemies can stealth killed or shot with crossbow
- bigger groups can be killed with a stone to lure them on one spot and a grenade to kill the whole group (managed up to ~8-10 enemies)


Bugs: totally bugged, from little to extreme bugs
- nearly every tooltip in the game is wrong, like production values (craft 5 in the infotext, 8 in another screen)
- ammo crafting only 1 bullet in the camp while 5 bullets during expedition
- vendor selling stuff for 1 credit suddenly
- destroyed 2 savegame slots and loaded the first save suddenly with 30hrs lost playtime, luckily the former saves worked
- enemy AI is shut off sometimes, standing around not attackable
- enemy viewcones disappear suddenly
- camp buildings can block workers from working
- ressources can get lost if you reassign workers while they try to build something
- glitchy, some walls have no collision and you can walk through
- getting stuck on corners constantly, sometimes you can jump around to get back, sometimes reload / fast travel
- hero followers getting stuck everywhere
- random crashes (5-6 times)

This game should be titled early access at best.
