The 'Big New Look' Play Test Update

Hi All,

I've just dropped a big update to the Play Test build here on Steam with new features and the brand new look! As part of the games flow, if you're lingering at the bottom of the leader board this is going to impact your progress. Points allow you to not only move up the board, but also progress in a season with elimination points now kicking in at heat 4.

Grab your place today by selecting 'Play Test' from the Super Laser Fury Steam Store page.

Here's some of the highlights in the update:

New look and feel
New Shop system that has main weapon upgrades
New 'Homing Laser Missiles' that can be upgraded to second rapid shot
New Shop items, Health increase, Stamina boos and Jet Boots upgrades
New Shield item added to Item Drop zones
Updated Slam Dunk function with shield and bigger hit range
Update Arenas - Playing Fields / Crucible
Reordered heats to follow on from each other within the same Arena (1-3 in Playing Fields, 4 - 6 in Crucible)
Music volume control added to settings
Elimination points resulting in season knock outs
Balance of ammo clips based on level of main weapon
Cosmetic tweaks to end heat victory and arena 2 environment changes
Know Issue - Music volume is not being respected when a race begins.

I'm still getting around to updating any footage with the new AD but some new screen shots have been popped in.

The 'Fresh Paint' Update

Hi Everyone,

There's not been much news over the last few months and this is because I've been hard at work finishing features(lots to share soon!) but also I want to share in this update a whole new look for the game!

In much the same way that the game design has taken shape over the years of development - from a third person, narrative based shooter to an arena future sport 'laserthon' - the AD has also been developing in a parallel stream.

This new direction embraces a much more cleaner look and graphic with outlines and colour blocking. I should also reveal that this new look has mainly been driven by the effort and time game assets were taking with the previous hyper real look, balanced with the time this is taking to develop. The environmental effects, screen space reflections, neon glows and lighting are still present as the core of SLF look and identity. As a solo dev I'm looking for smart cut throughs and this new art direction is less time consuming and more forgiving and will help to deliver the final vision to the size I've envisaged, 3 seasons across 18 races and a total of 6 arenas.

Hopefully this new art direction will add a boost to the games development and also bring its character to the forefront. So here we are, the new fresh looking Super Laser Fury!

Super Laser Fury Steam Play Test now available!

Hi There!

I wanted to post an update, and my first at that, on how development is going with Super Laser Fury. I'm excited to say that the Play Test is now available!

With that in mind I'm reaching out to find any willing players that would be happy to play the Play Test as it stands and also provide any valuable feedback on bugs and gameplay. In the life of a games development this is always the most nerve racking time when you put into the public domain something that you've spent so long in making, and in this case Super Laser Fury's nearly 2 year solo development - but I'm also incredibly excited to get into into the hands of players.

Hey everyone! Guess what? Version 5.2 of the Super Laser Fury playtest is here and ready for action! 🚀 It's bursting with updates and tweaks as we edge closer to the full release. Quick heads-up: If you’ve tried earlier versions, it’s best to kick off a new game—just to be safe. I can’t promise your old saves will behave themselves (there might be a gremlin or two hiding in the code). This playtest drops you straight into the first arena, complete with three thrilling heats. 🏁 So.....

Balancing

Hi there! I've been doing a lot of work on beginning to refine the balancing of the game as well as rolling out the full AD refresh. As a change rather than post screen shots with a load of text I thought I'd record gameplay footage as I attempt to complete a second beacon in Arena 1. This was also stress testing the engine, throwing lots of bullets around and playing with a fully upgraded character.
