The remaster does improve the visuals: sharper textures, updated lighting and slightly improved character models. The city looks cleaner and more pleasant to explore, especially indoors and during night scenes. It is not a generational leap, but it is visually more comfortable than the original version.That said, the Definitive Edition is far from perfectly polished. Technical issues and minor bugs can still occur, and animations clearly show the game’s age. The gameplay remains unchanged — no modern mechanics or quality-of-life updates were added — and this should be taken into account. If you expect a modern action game, disappointment is possible.Still, as a way to play or replay Mafia II today, this is a solid version. It does not replace the original, but it does not ruin it either, offering a slightly refreshed visual presentation without interfering with what already worked.
