these textures work pretty well for the iphone 12 and 13 models i have ported nice work so i guess these base textures are useful on electronic props

i haven't messed with it for quite a while but i did convert a GTA 4 car to it successfully as shown in this screenshot: https://files . catbox.moe/uothnz.png (remove the space)

I only have one question: Is there a glossy version of "paintbase_metallic"? I expected a vmt named "paintbase_glossy" but didn't find any, nor for matte. Any pointers on this?

ahh yeah I get your method then, similar to blueflytraps PBR method. thanks for all the info

the two different indentically shaped meshes are rendering two different materials at the same time

thanks for the infodump though, love these materials

so essentially stacking two identical meshes on top of each other then applying the second reflection's material to one of them?

also. because I do my metallic paint materials in a multi-layer system like that, that's the reason why they won't work on any car models that don't have paint meshes configured in the same way

as far as I know that is the only way the source engine lets me have multiple separate reflection layers in a single mesh

my "paintbase" material is for the solid non-transparent base of a paint which has its own reflection layer, my "paintadd" material is a transparent extra layer of reflection, with a specific technique I use when putting together my car models I use those two separate materials to render two different instances of the same 3d mesh that makes up the car's body so I can properly replicate the two separate reflection layers that metallic paints have in real life
