Lore:
Gal'iend are large, flying predatory reptiles from the surface of the Tr'allanga home world.

These animals primarily feed on Kara'sar and other large prey animals; but will eat other smaller prey like fish and the Ras'kaar as well.

Gal'iend have no known predators; but were nearly hunted to extinction as "revenge" by hunters for attacking herds of Kara'sar the Tr'allanga were keeping as farm cattle.

But as a result; The Ras'kaar population quickly got out of control and started attacking crops they needed to sustain the Kara'sar herds; causing many of their cattle to starve.

So; a law was passed that made the Gal'iend a protected species and it illegal to kill or harm them unless it was in self defence.

But luckily; the Gal'iend now had a fear of the Tr'allanga species and would actively keep away from them.

And some time later; the Gal'iend population eventually returned to its normal levels.

Also; despite the fact the Gal'iend have no natural predators; they still have a thick exoskeleton which protects them; but this is mainly to protect them from rivals during the mating season.

But regarding their actual biology and behaviour:

The Gal'iend hunts large prey like the Kara'sar often using either its jaw and mandibles to rip them apart; or using its tail claw to grab and crush them.

Gal'iend will also sometimes wait by rivers and catch fish using their jaws.

These creatures are also highly mobile despite their immense size and weight; able to take off just using their wings; climb up the trunks of Pillar Trees using their wing claws and even run decently fast on their hind legs to chase prey in smaller areas.

Speaking of areas; the Gal'iend is mainly a solitary animal and will regularly fly and/or walk around a large area looking for prey; occasionally releasing bursts of its own urine to scent mark its territory.

Gal'iend will also violently defend their territory from any invaders and will outright battle to the death with others to protect it; especially if they have a mate, eggs, or children to defend.

The only few times a Gal'iend is not solitary is when its the breeding season from mid spring to late summer or when they pair up after breeding.

Speaking of breeding season; these creatures find mates in a similar way to earth deer.

Males will seek out females, following their scent in the summer and battle one another for the right to mate; often leading to serious combat scars across their bodies.

Females also have antlers; but these are more a display of fertility than for combat.

Anyway, once a male wins the right to mate; he will mate with the female and she will pair up with him permanently and live in his territory.

14 months later; the female will build a large nest high up in the trees and lay her eggs, taking turns guarding them with the male so both can rest and eat.

8 months later; the eggs will hatch and new born Gal'iend will emerge; but wont be able to fly till their older.

So; the mother and father will hunt food and feed the babies, till their ready to fly on their own.

3 years after hatching; the Gal'iend babies will reach a big enough size to fly and will often learn to take flight on their own; but some will have to be shown how to fly by the parents.

Gal'iend have a life span of 80-90 years and become sexually mature adults at age 20.

Side information:
The Gal'iend has an intelligence similar to earth crows; and they are able to memorise specific individuals; be it friend or foe.
