Age of Respair is a strategy castle builder where you'll manage every aspect of your kingdom:

Play a story-driven campaign or engage in intense skirmishes against AI opponents.



Gather essential resources like wood, stone, and iron. Workers collect these resources and deliver them to your stockpile, making them available for use in production chains. Don’t forget to feed your population - choose between quick options like apple farms or build more reliable food systems, such as wheat fields that supply to mills and bakeries. Every decision shapes the prosperity of your kingdom.



Managing your population’s happiness is essential for maintaining a thriving kingdom. If your people are unhappy, they’ll abandon their work and even your castle. Build churches, taverns, and decorations to boost morale, but be careful - more people means more buildings to keep them content.
Alternatively, you can rule through fear by placing intimidating structures like torture machines, increasing productivity at the cost of happiness. Balance your reputation wisely:

• Happier citizens pay more taxes.
  
• Fear can drive higher resource production.

As your kingdom grows, so do your needs. Start with basic buildings and upgrade them to improve efficiency, ensuring your economy scales with your ambitions. Strategic upgrades are key to maintaining a robust and thriving economy.



Fortify your defenses with strong walls, strategic towers, and deep moats to safeguard your kingdom from enemy invasions. Protect your king at all costs.
Once your defenses are secure, shift focus to your offensive strategy. Produce weapons, train soldiers, and deploy siege machines like ballistas, catapults, and siege towers to conquer enemy castles. With the fog of war hiding enemy locations, careful scouting and strategic planning are essential for victory.
