You explore an alien machine, learn to operate it, create virtual organisms, and grow an artificial ecosystem inside it. You design species down to individual atoms and watch them fight for survival. You then send successful species to other players to leech energy from them and power your machine.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We have designed a complex and involved physics-sandbox that produces living things. Now we need player feedback to turn it into a *gaming experience*. Furthermore, we need to finish some core features that do not affect the main gameplay loop.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“One to two years, depending on how long it takes to implement artificial evolution (AI is a finicky thing).”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The main feature we plan to introduce is the recombination engine - an AI that will analyse genetic data and produce new species from parental chromosomes, facilitating artificial evolution. The same engine will allow players to experiment with genetic engineering.
We also plan to include multiplayer functionality: space travel for both players and their lifeforms, mechanical interactions between space-capable customizable player bodies, and a global dynamic ecosystem where new species appear every day.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“It's got a complete gameplay loop, a fully functional artificial ecosystem, self-learning AI for the virtual lifeforms, editors for building and training organisms and their nervous systems...we hope to facilitate a regular supply of new species via cloud storage in the near future, but new chromosomes will still appear semi-regularly.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price by 25% when exiting Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We'll do our best to listen - this game will never be for everyone, but for those who like it - we will make you like it even more. Join our Discord server to participate in the development process.”

About This Game

soul Interface is an evolution simulator / sandbox with functioning natural selection and space multiplayer. It provides multiple playstyles depending on which you prefer:

Involved - You get to design organisms with soft bodies made of individual atoms and brains made up of neurons and neural networks. You program or train their behaviors to outeat, outgrow or hunt into extinction competing lifeforms. Eventually, you get to send out your most invasive organsims and duel with other players, trying to overtake their ecosystems with your species…

Chill - You are tasked with growing and maintaining a virtual aquarium.
You will create safe, warm currents to grow digital jellyfish; architect growbeds for virtual seaweed; or safe hunting grounds for baby sharks. Select species of plants and predators that coexist well together… and watch your digital ecosystem flourish!

All this wrapped in hand-programmed vector graphics, from an alternate reality 2000s. The game features full voiceacting and an atmospheric music score by our amazing composer, Geoffrey Guyer.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

This software uses DDPG and TD3 self-learning algorithms to train virtual lifeforms to control their bodies. These algorithms only learn from experiences collected by their organisms over the course of their lifetimes and use no other data.
In the future, we plan to introduce the recombination engine - a generative AI that will analyse genetic data from lifeforms based on viability and use the results to create new, more capable species of offspring, simulating an accelerated evolutionary process. User-created lifeforms may be used for this as well as those, generated by the engine. Only those lifeforms, explicitly shared by the user, will be utilized for this purpose.
Both processes are initiated by the user with their direct permission.
