What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“As a small team, we’ve put our hearts into making Splittown's world reactive, branching, and brimming with secrets waiting to be uncovered. But the more content you have, the more fun ways things can break. By entering Early Access, we hope to iron out bugs, fine-tune the story and puzzle flow, and enhance the game’s overall quality with direct feedback from you!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to keep Splittown in Early Access throughout Q1/Q2 of 2025. The exact timeline may change based on player feedback and development progress.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to expand the story with additional side tasks, more impactful player choices, and improved puzzle polish. We also hope to add a native Linux build, full Steam Deck support, and implement an in-game hint system—depending on how development evolves.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The main story as described in the "About this game" section is playable from start to finish, albeit with bugs. Some side quests and branching paths aren’t implemented, puzzle difficulty and polish vary, and there is no native Linux build available yet. There is a native build for both Windows and macOS. While the game is not Steam Deck verified, it is playable on Linux and Steam Deck via Proton.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will be priced similarly during and after the Early Access period.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to involve the community directly through the Steam Community Hub forums, where players can share feedback, discuss their experiences, and suggest improvements. Additionally, we've implemented in-game features that allow you to easily submit bugs and offer ideas for refinement as you play.”

Reviews

“The gameplay, visuals and humor feel very much like a love letter to Lucasarts classics. The UI is simple and easy to use (much like the Sam & Max Max UI), the gag rate is high and there’s lots of fun little surprises and easter eggs to discover. There are even some optional objectives to complete…”
Alpha Beta Gamer

“...it’s as if there was a get-together featuring the artists of LucasArts, 90s Nickelodeon cartoons, and Salvador Dali got together and did some acid. Presumably. The perspective in the game is unique and very reminiscent of 90s point and click adventures.”
Vulgar Knight

“I really enjoyed my time inside its world of spies, appreciating small nods to classic games and the inspirations drawn from them.”

About This Game

Splittown is for the point-and-click fans who feel that the genre has lost its way since classics like Day of the Tentacle and Sam & Max Hit The Road. With a story that adapts to player choices, Splittown offers a familiar yet fresh addition to the point-and-click canon, drawing additional inspiration from immersive sims like Deus Ex, CRPGs like Planescape: Torment, and even contemporary games like Disco Elysium.

Splittown embraces the absurdity and whimsy of 90s point-and-clicks, while also drawing from the rich world-building, branching narratives, and player agency of classic CRPGs. Characters you meet aren't there just to be joke dispensers; they have their own motivations, backstories, and arcs. Similarly, the choices you make in dialogue or exploration aren’t just for show—they carry real weight in a world that feels lived-in and authentic.

Every nook and cranny has been crafted with care over nearly a decade, resulting in a game world brimming with life and interactivity. Whether you’re delving into lore, engaging in unexpected side quests, or simply experimenting with the environment, you’ll find that the world reacts to your actions in surprising ways. It’s a small world, but it’s packed with depth—rewarding those who take the time to explore its many layers.

Splittown is an undeniably funny game, but it's not a relentless barrage of jokes and winks to the camera. We've set out to create a narrative filled with genuine moments of suspense, sadness, triumph, and everything in between. The world of Splittown might be absurd on the surface, but for the characters living in it, their struggles and victories are very real.
