What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

Ships At Sea is a vast world, and we have many ideas that we would like to implement to provide the best ship simulation experience. We realized that working directly with our community is the best way to achieve this goal. With Early Access, we receive valuable feedback and collaborate with our fans at every step of the development cycle.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It may take one to two years, depending on player feedback and how much content we choose to integrate into the final game.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of Ships At Sea will significantly expand upon the Early Access foundation by introducing larger vessels (tiers/classes 3–5), new career-specific gameplay mechanics, and a total of 16 unique ships. Currently, co-op functionality is available, but the full version will include enhanced multiplayer experiences tied to the introduction of larger ships and complex team dynamics. Competitive elements, such as leaderboards and rankings, are also planned to complement these features.

We aim to add new systems like cross-platform, a comprehensive crew management system, NPC crew and ships, and an expanded skill tree to enrich progression. Additionally, the full version will include full controller support and HOTAS (Hands-On Throttle and Stick) compatibility, catering to players seeking a more immersive experience. All planned localizations will also be included in the full release to ensure accessibility for players worldwide.

While the Early Access phase focuses on introducing core features and gathering player feedback, the full version will reflect a polished, feature-complete vision of the game.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version of Ships At Sea offers fully functional single-player and multiplayer modes. Players can explore multiple ports and harbors, interact with shops to purchase tools for missions, food for fish farming, and fishing gear, and sell their catches. The shipyard allows players to rig, upgrade, repair, maintain, and sell their ships, providing a comprehensive and engaging management experience.

The game currently features seven fully modelled and operational ships spanning tiers 1 and 2, offering a diverse selection of vessels for players to operate. Core gameplay elements, such as longline and net fishing, are integrated, along with the ability to repair fish farms. Basic crane operations and cargo transport systems are also available.

Key UI systems, including character customization, shop interactions, and ship upgrades, are functional. Essential tools like the map and logbook are also operational. Instruments in the wheelhouse, such as the radar, sonar, autopilot, and gauges, are fully functional, adding depth to the simulation experience. Currently, time-skipping is only available in single-player mode, but it is planned for expansion into multiplayer. Additionally, fast travel or teleportation between locations has not yet been implemented. Mission types such as repairing sea markers, assisting burning boats, and towing operations are currently being reworked and are temporarily unavailable.

The savegame system is still under development and is not yet fully completed. While the game provides a solid foundation, ongoing work focuses on addressing bugs, balancing ship handling, polishing gameplay mechanics, and finalizing remaining UI elements to deliver a more refined and immersive experience.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“There will be no price increase during the Early Access version. However, the price will be adjusted once the full version is completed.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Our primary communication channels with our community will be our server #suggestions chat channel and the Steam forums. Players are welcome to suggest new features and modifications there.”

Roadmap

About This Game

Misc Games, the creators of the highly-popular commercial fishing franchises Fishing: North Atlantic and Fishing: Barents Sea, proudly present their brand-new title: Ships At Sea. This exciting release introduces multiplayer co-op and competitive modes, delivering the dynamic gameplay experience fans have been eagerly awaiting.

Ships At Sea, the next generation of ship simulation, introduces service and cargo vessels for the first time. Build your career in service, cargo, or commercial fishing as you venture into the untamable Norwegian Sea. Join a company with your friends to collaborate on tasks and share resources, or run your own company in the same session to compete against others in a shared multiplayer world.

In partnership with Nvidia, we are proud to introduce the cutting-edge WaveWorks water shader, which delivers a cinematic-quality ocean simulation. Complementing this, we've implemented a fully overhauled, physically based buoyancy system to ensure vessels of all sizes behave realistically on the water. To further enhance immersion, the dynamic weather system is composed of two key components. These components bring the environment to life with rain, fog, lightning, and storms. Together, they make every journey feel authentic and unpredictable.

Above all, Ships At Sea takes a bold step forward by allowing players to explore authentically recreated harbors in Lofoten, Norway. Immerse yourself in the vibrant port life—visit shops to purchase tools and equipment, or stop by the shipyard to upgrade, maintain, and repair your vessels.

Building on the success of our previous games, Ships At Sea offers an atmospheric and highly realistic environment featuring accurate maps, licensed ships and equipment. With stunning graphics, the game delivers striking, immersive visuals, providing the ultimate ship simulation experience. Embark on this journey and claim your place as a master of the seas!

To ensure a fully engaging maritime experience, Ships At Sea incorporates advanced technologies to enhance gameplay quality. The game supports Nvidia DLSS Frame Generation and AMD FSR 2/3 Upscaling, boosting performance by generating new frames and improving FPS. Additionally, Intel® XeSS is supported, and color settings can be adjusted to accommodate players with color vision deficiencies.
