@Grizzly: I'm putting the finishing touches on some tweaks to the stats of these, so soon they'll be more in line with the other set. If I remember right (don't have my spreadsheet atm), the cost will be the same. Upkeep, capacity and processing rates will vary a little (I don't want to mess too much with those as they affect existing cities). But numbers will make a little more sense. :)

Heya! I'm also enjoying using these! Now that the Waste Processing Facility variants are out, it does feel a lil' bit weird that these are vastly more expensive, especially for the stage you get them in the game, but I do like that I can now plop a few of them down and then combine them with the waste processing variants later on in my city's development.

@Avanya Edmonton Composting facility looks pretty standard - but it's also my first result on google. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edmonton_Composting_Facility) I don't have any special facilities in mind, they are probably pretty standard looking as this kind of facilities tend to be. I imagine a field separated from the surroundings, with a system collecting the released methane to be burned or, in case of modern facilities, to be liquified into fuel.

All that said, it's been a long time since I tested them and feedback is always welcome. I want them to feel somewhat balanced. They should be a choice that's worth using, less cost effective than an incinerator, but still able to handle a lot of a city's needs. Since Sunset Harbor expanded garbage a bit, I do plan on having another look at them and adding some buildings or another set that work like the Waste Processing Plant, so that would be a good time to tweek some stats. I'm unlikely to make large changes though, so while I might lower the processing rate, it will still be significantly higher than the GC one. Otherwise cities that use these will start drowning in garbage.

A compost facility? Hmm... Maybe. If you have any good references (pictures or locations on Google maps) that's always welcome

@Ernomouse: I based them around similar buildings at the time, which was way before Green Cities' recycling center came out. I've done calculations for processing rate per upkeep unit, capacity per cost unit and upkeep per truck. Processing sits around the incinerator, capacity/cost is about half of an incinerator and upkeep/truck is almost twice an incinerator. I think I had problems with them getting full with lower processing rates, so I opted for making them more expensive instead.

I love this collection! The only complaint I have is that I think the buildings are too pricey and powerful, especially when you compare them to the incinerator plant or Green Cities' Recycling center. If you build a full set you will usually be so far above the needs of your cities waste management needs that you don't really need anything else, and I see recycling facilities like these as more complementary than standalone solution to waste problems. That could be debated though, this set is pretty thorough...

What is your thinking behind the individual buildings stats?

Also one suggestion: It seems like a compost facility is missing, would you consider adding one even though this is an old set?

@Overlord: Hehe, yeah I can imagine the surprise. :P I was just happy I could update these and the production of materials wasn't locked behind the DLC, so these could finally do some proper recycling :D

Started my game few days ago after long break and I was very surprised as I saw some trucks with raw materials coming out of my large recycling facility :D I was like hey WTF some bug or what? How is that possible that forestry truck spawns in my facility. I thought it has to be somehow related with the green city DLC :) btw I like this upgrade (producing raw materials) :) So thank you.

@Slye_Fox: That depends on how the function will be added, since I don't want to make these suddently need Green Cities. If the function can be added to these, I will do that. If not, then I'll make Green Cities versions of them, that will have the full recycling function. :)

Ah, okay. Thank you for explaining it. I don't have such insights but guessed it already that CS cannot be a complex simulation (no blame, of course). So awesome assets. :-)

@Quix0r: It doesn't actually recycle the waste, just process it without polluting. The game's mechanics aren't deep enough for actual recycling (at least atm). But this set can give the illusion of it. :)

@Silverwind: The recycling drop-off does have an area for compost, but you're right there isn't really an option for it on a larger scale. No plans for something like that atm I'm afraid, but perhaps in the future.

SO with this I can build a large modularized recycling center? Really cool! Better than burning it or using the (unrealistic) atomizer.

How about a composting facility? It's the one thing missing when it comes to getting garbage down to 0.

@Fragnatix: No, they don't produce anything. Most of them don't pollute the ground though, but the main purpose of them is the look of a cleaner way to handle trash.

Do you have any advantage of having this? I mean does it produce material for my industry or commercial?

The game doesn't differentiate that much between raw materials, so something like that would require new coding, which is way beyond me. Having them produce raw materials is possible (aluminium & iron would give ore, plastic would give oil, gypsum could give ore, but glass and paper wouldn't make sense as raw materials - they're turned into finished products).

i would like to see them produce raw materials no goods just raw materials and add if posible a set up an entire industry based off those raw materials the ones you cant mine like plastic and Aluminium

Update on these also producing raw materials/goods. I've got it working, but just like all industry that isn't extractors, they'd need raw materials. So I'd love to know if you guys would prefer them just as they are now, or if you'd like them producing goods too even though they'd need raw materials delivered?

They are all more than the 4x4 squared needed for growables, so it's not an easy conversion. I might make some industrial assets in a similar look, but I'm not sure. Have a few other things I want to do first :)

Would it be a good idea if you turn them into growable industrial buildings? Would add an awesome variety to what we currently have :D

I have no interest in making a garbage dump, but if anyone feels like it the material handlers are up af props that can be added to any building. Besides being maybe a bit small/boring the default garbage dump simulates the real thing pretty well I think. :)

i know but we still need 1 better then the vanilla and with that grabber you made it should be possible and RICO on means they all are industry so perhaps make a second rico version for them i do like the idea i just started rico and works great also for bigger mining places wich dont realyy need a second version

Well, technically they are incinerators, that work slower than the default one. I plan on looking into the RICO mod and see if I can get them to also produce raw materials/goods - so that things are actually recycled.

The only difference between a garbage dump and incinerator (and my recycling plants) is that a garbage dump doesn't process garbage and will eventually fill up
