I think theyre using soft lamps. It creates cool realistic lighting but is hard to learn.

Addon affects the content of gamemode itself - sandbox. There also no background tag, so we have what we have.

Why is this tagged as a "Gamemode"?

You can do it manually by going to local files of the game and ghen go to "garrysmod/backgrounds" folder.

does it removes default backgrounds from menu?

gnome machine gun is good imo

I'll make a note, but Gnome machine gun was not eliminated but had a chance to replace Coffin Dance so I make an exception for it. Also some background now using custom male models, it's not restricted by rules (even some background have a different model of Toolgun).
Other than that, I disagree only with first three but won't change your opinion.

I disagree with some, here's which ones and why.

Coffin dance: It's a meme, those die quickly, hell the meme's dead as of this comment being posted

Kleiner: There's 2 things, either it's an actual background or a movie posted. If it's an actual background, it doesn't have a background. If it's a movie poster, then all the characters are spread apart too much. Also, it's hard to see Lamarr.

Gnome machine gun: Custom male model that requires an addon, too little going on (GMod backgrounds need to be able to looked at hours on end).

Mine: It has no shaders and awful posing, as if they didn't try to pose them more than once.

Chess: Bad angle and too high FOV

there's a couple that aren't so great. but i'd say some of 'em should of made it

Coming from someone who could care less about the Coffin Dance Meme (I won't go so far as to say I hate it), that's one of those pictures that is so damn good it's hard not to appreciate it..
