simple sprite replacement mods like that are an excellent hello world to start modding most games, including starbound
you will have to pixel art the rippling animation manually yourself which can be a little bit iffy
i did throw together some tools to automate a lot of the arting process for this mod - idk if the default flags have the same shape and aspect ratio and everything, they probably don't, but at least if nothing else there's examples to look at
this mod is licenced under the gnu gplv3 which you can read about here https://choosealicense.com/licenses/gpl-3.0/ - those terms apply if you include any code or assets from this mod in your own. basically it means you can do whatever you want as long as you're transparent and any derivatives are released under the same licence

I'm tempted to learn how to do pixel art because I am so sick of how ugly the default Human flag is, and am honestly surprised there are no replacement mods for it.

i have found minimal time and motivation recently to be working on old projects and stuff and idk if there's much i can do about it
but im still definitely always accepting pull requests on the mod repo so if anyone wants to look through my files (and half finished wiki) and do some pixel art for the mod then like hell yeah i'll implement it
it's really easy like the animation is done automatically
i do have minimum standards for flag art quality but i've only ever received like One third party contribution so i have no idea how to quantify that
but really like

this is an old project and i have higher priorities than adding more flags to it

I'd love to see the Newfoundland flag (Any of the three flags you'll find works, but I'd prefer the current provincial flag!).

I suppose it may be too late to ask, but I would love to see a flag for the Roman or Byzantine Empires. Something as simple as a wreath laurel with SPQR on it, or a Chi-Rho, or the Palaiologos Eagle.

@mewl up Nice to hear about the Quebecois flag. ^^ Rhode Island's Flag can be simplified down to the stars and the anchor for people to still identify it. I understand if you can't get Maryland or Ohio. They are pretty complicated. Thank you for replying.

i apologise, but you have to consider the space that we're working with here.
the flags are only 18x12 pixels, so i don't know how to fit in all of the detail in rhode island's or maryland's flags, or where to even begin with ohio's.
i'll try quebec, but it'll look almost identical to georgia save for the palette swap.
