Of course, you don't "NEED" need the newest features in development; you can still use the master / "stable" (the most popular) version. But on the two official workshop uploads, we at least try to react to bug reports, especially those caused by gmod updates, and apply fixes in due time. It didn't take long for me to find glaring bugs on this.
