PREPARE TO DIE EDITION. Oh, wait, wrong game and genre.

This is the english trial version of Eryi's Action, the devious trap game by Xtal Sword. You know what they say, a trap is fine when it's about delicious melons. (sic)

Anyway, if you know my channel, it's mostly about STGs and things that look like STGs but are from other genres. I'm making an exception because I've been playing this for far longer and BEFORE it was even announced. It's kind of a love or hate game but once you like it, there is no going back, heh.

At the surface, it looks like a common platformer with enemies and stuff to pick up and puzzles to solve. A very cutesy platformer that comes sugar packed...

... until you bite the dust on the first trap. Until the game suddenly starts changing genres, throwing boss battles and culminates in a freaking shmup bullet hell battle, haha! So, the game takes the premise of the typical trap game (akin IWBTG and others) but twists it enough to make it not only varied but slightly less about "I hate you with so much passion".

I'm putting up the uncut, blind first runs I did on the trial just to show nobody is perfect, heh. I could've perfected it and even attempted a speed run but, well, I just wanted to showcase some of the devious traps.

When you are in the right mindset and know that pretty much everything is out there to kill you, there comes the puzzle components. Some parts will require to use the brain a bit to overcome them. Figuring out the water sprinkler was a needed tool of course took me a couple of tries. This is, I guess, part of the japanese philosophy of trying again to become better. Overall, you an see coming a lot of the traps and that's part of the fun. Sometimes you'll jump on a trap just to see how ludicrous things can get.

I feel the game is perfect for those moments where you get SICK of serious things and just want to enter the land of surrealism and madness, heh. So, yeah, appearances can be deceiving and by the end, things enter into crazy epic territory.

I've heard some people saying the game is actually on the easy side. Well, that's actually fine for me! There is an Extra mode that brings in the real pain for those who love this kind of games.
