L4D2 Game Info & Workshop Mods
By DG | Tom Da Bomb [S] [D]
This is a guide for random stuff in L4D2 coop that could be helpful to players, its actually a Discussion in the "Duskgamers Public Group" thats always changing, so Click Here for the Discussion to check it for new info or add workshop mods you liked.

We also have a List of Workshop Campaigns that are less than 1GB in size per campaign and run almost as good as the originals for players with low end PC's, so hopefully its useful to some players.

    ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Opening the Developers Console In-game
Go to options in L4D2 and click multiplayer then make sure Developers Console is Enabled, then press the ~ button (known as the tilda key) under Esc to display the Console.

Source Server Browser In-game
Open the Dev Console and type openserverbrowser then press enter to submit, youll see the same old Source Server Browser as always but in L4D2. (Source Server Browser is also formally known as HLSW - Half Life Server Window)

* If you connect to a server with the Server Browser it wont let you vote to kick players, and it wont make a tag in the regular match making area for players to join when they go to Campaign and Play Online from the main menu.

Client Information Graph
Open the Dev Console and type net_graph 2 to make a graph show up on the bottom of the screen that tells you what your ping / latency is and fps (Frames Per Second), if you type net_graph 0 in the Console it makes it go away.

* There are 4 graphs in total so net_graph 1 up to net_graph 4 gives you different levels of info, but net_graph 0 always makes it go away.

** Type net_graphpos 1 for the graph to be in the lower right corner, net_graphpos 2 to make it in the middle of the bottom, and net_graphpos 3 to make it sit in the lower left corner of the screen.

Connecting to a Specific Server
You can make a lobby through the campaign matchmaking like you normally would, then click Edit Game Settings, as if you were going to change the map to the lobby, and change the server type to Steam Group Server instead of Official Dedicated, then when you start the match as the lobby leader it will give you a list and you can find the server you want. (this makes it so players can join from the campaign - play online menu)

Or open the Dev Console and type connect IPaddress then press enter to submit and connect, so it will look somewhat like connect 000.000.00.000:00000, or click on Steam Group Servers on the L4D2 main menu / home screen in the lower right corner.

Using the openserverbrowser command in the Console is probably the easiest way to get back to a specific server with the history tab, or add them to your favoites tab which links with the Steam Desktop Server Browser (HLSW for the desktop thats explained below).

* If you join our public group you can start a match on the servers we currently have.

** If your steam profile is set to Private or Friends Only then you wont see any of the Steam Group Servers on the main menu of L4D2 unless your a member of its steam group, if your profile is set to Public you can see all the public steam group servers to start a match on, and the ones that are for group members only. (For more info on server selection see the How to Select a Server guide, or theres a video explination Here,[twitch.tv] but its not very good so id still suggest reading instead lol)

Muting a Players Mic In-game
Open the Dev Console and type status then look for the # by the players name you want to mute, then type voice_mute # ( # by player name in status read out) to mute them, or type voice_reset_mutelist in the Console to unmute all players.

Changing Your Crosshair Color
Open options and make sure Color Blind Mode is disabled in the multiplayer tab, then open the Dev Console and type the following lines separately
cl_crosshaircolor_r 255 cl_crosshaircolor_g 100 cl_crosshaircolor_b 180
Which should give you a nice hot pink crosshair color :D or find the Red, Green, Blue combo of the color you want and set it.

Finding a Players Steam ID \ ID3
Open the Dev Console and type status then the players ID should be next to their name if they are still in the game with you, and if they leave you can follow this link to a post on our website that shows you How To Find a Steam ID.[duskgamers.com]

Recording an In-game Demo
In L4D2 and most other Source Engine games, like Counter-Strike, you can open the Dev Console and type record demo1;clear;status and hit enter to submit which starts recording, then enter stop to end the demo, then you can go back in your game files to find your demo1[duskgamers.com] file which is your recording and upload it for a ban request on a rule breaking player.

Or if you use other recording programs like XSplit, OBS etc. you can send a video file recorded with that, just be sure to open the Console and type the status command so the players Steam ID shows up in the video as well as what they did.

* If you have recorded your first demo and want to keep it but still have to record a 2nd demo then type the same command but use demo2, so it would be record demo2;clear;status then demo3, record starts the recording and the demo1 part is just the name of that recording so you can name it what you want, but make sure to still have ;clear;status after the name for they are important commands for the demo.

** Demo files are large so try to keep all recordings to under 10 minutes, they shouldnt take up a significant space if you dont record and have multiple demos saved, but under 10 minutes makes it easier to send and upload.

Third Person View Mode
Open the Dev Console and type thirdpersonshoulder to activate/deactivate 3rd person view, then enter the following lines separately
c_thirdpersonshoulderaimdist 350.0 c_thirdpersonshoulderdist 90.0 cam_idealdist 45.0 cam_ideallag 1.0 c_thirdpersonshoulderoffset 18.0 / c_thirdpersonshoulderoffset -18.0 = (left shoulder) c_thirdpersonshoulderheight 3.0 new improvement!!! set the new FOV Slider in the Multiplayer Tab of the L4D2 Options to 105 wow a decade after the game releases they finally fix the FOV cvar? thats just 100% neglect. . .
* This helps make the crosshairs more accurate, you can make 3rd person 100% accurate but the crosshairs would be directly in the back of the characters neck which makes it hard to see, most players get used to the slight offset and you can adjust them as you like.

** You only need to enter the c_ lines in the Console once separately to set them and they should save, then thirdpersonshoulder to turn it on and off so youll want to bind it to a key.

Binding a Command to a Key
Open the Dev Console and type bind v "thirdpersonshoulder" to be able to press v and enter the third person view command into the Dev Console, if you wanna bind a chat message like !spectate to a key, then enter bind v "say !spectate" so when you press v it will enter !spectate into the in-game chat box. You can always replace v with whatever key you want to bind.

* To unbind a key just type unbind v in the Console to un-do the bind you set on the v key.

Steam Desktop Server Browser
You can open your server browser from the desktop to see favorites and look for servers in any game that has the Source Server Browser[duskgamers.com]. The link leads to a post on our website with a step by step picture. (Source Server Browser is also formally known as HLSW - Half Life Server Window)

Heres a mod for anyone that likes to use 3rd person view mode a lot, it will fix it so you can hear the auto-shotgun sounds but doesnt fix the pump-shotgun sounds, and may conflict if your using an auto-shotgun mod with HUD changes.

*Notice* We have fixed the 3rd person auto & pump-shotgun sounds on our servers, so if you play on them you have to go to addons in the main menu of l4d2 and uncheck the box for this mod, otherwise you will hear 2 auto-shotgun shots go off each time which makes an echo sound, then when you play other places you cant hear the shotguns check the box for this mod in addons again so you can at least hear the auto-shotguns.
