IMPORTANT
I do not work on Garry's Mod add-ons anymore. It's too difficult balancing life stuff with projects like this. I highly recommend looking at alternatives if you have any issues.

What is "open Virus"?
open Virus is an open-source gamemode based from PixelTail's Virus concept. No, this gamemode is NOT 100% identical to GMod Tower/Tower Unite. There are similarities and some weapon ideas based off PixelTail's but doesn't take content from them.

The gamemode has two teams: Survivors and Infected. Survivors must survive the entire round while the Infected must infect all the survivors. Survivors are given random weapons to aid them against the infected, such as SLAMs and Adrenaline.

What are the controls?
It's your average FPS shooter! To keep the concept the same as GMod Tower/Tower Unite, jumping, crouching, sprinting and some other key controls are disabled though. Oh, and the C key is useful (so use it under emergency situations)!

Maps?
Yes! There are basic maps for this gamemode at this current stage. Check out my map starter pack which includes two basic maps ready for this gamemode. Some Counter-Strike: Source maps also work with the gamemode.

Music?
The gamemode allows you to pack custom music for gameplay. Look at the TimeSplitters music pack as an example for using the gamemode's music system.

  • The wfp folder is used when waiting for players.
  • The pround folder is used when the main round is just about to start.
  • The inround folder is used when the main round has started.
  • The laststanding folder is used when only one survivor remains.
  • The infected_win folder is used when the round ends and no survivors are left.
  • The survivors_win folder is used when the round ends and there are survivors remaining.

How about legal stuff?
Well, apart from using assets (sounds) from TimeSplitters, the gamemode mainly uses content included in Garry's Mod and Counter-Strike: Source. No assets were taken from PixelTail during this creation, nor is PixelTail affiliated with this gamemode. If you really want to support the original concept creators, buy Tower Unite.

Didn't there use to be a way to add bots to play solo with? (or with friends) I used to set it up a couple years ago but can't seem to find the instructions anymore

That can't be good.

But really, this is the result of boredom and I tried avoiding any usage of GMT/Tower Unite content (well, besides the music, but that's from Timesplitters and whatever). I've also said it's not affiliated with PixelTail and those who want to support PixelTail should buy Tower Unite instead. I'm happy to take this down if PixelTail wishes for me to do so, but they've yet to say anything so it'll remain in limbo here. Besides, most of the coding here is pretty half-assed and could've been done way better (even though I recently went over it with "improvements" but it could still be pretty messy). For the normal user, this doesn't really matter though as it plays just fine.

It'd be really awesome if I could just change it so there wasn't a timer. Maybe a console command could be added? Doesn't sound like it'd be a tough thing to push out as an update though it's up to you!
