Security

Bad things have happened in [Insert Middle-Eastern Country]. The Insurgents have taken all the food in Dreamland bombed the ♥♥♥♥ out of everything! And it's up to the Security forces, who are probably just the US military, to deal justice in this completely destroyed lifeless wasteland by bombing the ♥♥♥♥ out of everything, except without fire support, a feature that will never be added to this series. Grab your guns and remember to equip attachments, because that CS:GO player with the bare M40A1 might not be so good at this.

Insurgents

The people who caused the bad things in [Insert Middle-Eastern Country]. They have a lot of RPGs for some strange reason, and they're not gonna go down without a fight. Unless you have a suppressor, in which case they can't see you at all, unless they're a legendary CS:GO player who thinks the IED is the thing you plant at your own cache. Also, they're probably really well funded. They've got a lot of "charity" fundraisers, like the Central Intelligence Agency.

VIP

Random people who got lost in a car park. Now they're in [Insert Middle-Eastern Country], with a pistol and a ton of randoms defending them on their quest to get to the Baskin-Robbins down the street. However, most of the time, they're CS:GO players who don't use their sights, running directly toward the nearest gunshots.
Guns
Security

MP5K

Standard SMG. Pretty good, but goes well with a supressor. Don't take this gun into battle without some backup and AP Ammo, though; it takes a few shots for a kill.

UMP45

Like the MP5 but better. Deals more damage via its higher caliber round. However, recoil and a lower amount of Workshop mods is an issue.

AC556

A carbine rifle that can switch between semi and auto. Can go quite well with a good set of attachments.

MK18

A really small M4A1. High recoil, but can still drop a few bots.

M4A1

Highly-used standard carbine. Good damage, with stats almost the same as the MK18.

M16A4

Burst and semi long rifle. Good if you want to fire from a distance. Goes really well with scopes. Just don't try going Rambo with this thing.

Galil SAR

The Insurgents' Galil, but modernized and grey so Security can use it. Some classes offer a drum mag, and you'd better use it. Quite a good gun regardless.

L1A1

The FAL's semi-automatic cousin. Good for long-range, seeing semi isn't always good for breaching.

M14

Long-range, high-damage marksman rifle. Also comes with Auto, so you can roll this thing anywhere.

M249

High damage, high recoil LMG. Unlike most unrealistic FPS games, this gun is suprisingly unreliable sometimes. Comes with a bipod.

M590

A pump-action shotgun. Great for breaching (fitting for it's default class), but not too perfect for long range. Unless you equipped Slugs. Hipfiring, especially at close range, somehow reduces it's damage.

M40A1

A sniper. It's only real use is long range, for everything else it's useless unless you can somehow use it in close-quarters. Definitely pack a pistol with you if you're choosing this.

Insurgents

MP40

WWII German gun. Low fire rate, but it's iron sights are better than other sights. Great if you like calling yourself a "true American patriot and freedom fighter" yet frequently find yourself fawning over pre-Cold War Germany.

Sterling

British SMG from the 1950s, best known as the basis of the E-11 blaster rifle from Star Wars. Pretty good, kinda weak, fires fast. But what's with the Insurgents and vintage guns?

M1

Another vintage, this time it's a semi carbine rifle. Not the Garand, unfortunately. Nice for mid/long range. Just don't rely on it.

SKS

A bit like the M1, but used by the bad guys! Seeing the AK-47 replaced this in real life, you bet this gun is literally just the AK-74 with better accuracy.

AKS-74U

Like the MK18 is to the M4A1, the AKS-74U is the smaller edition of the AK-74. Small, looks stupid, is generally the same.

AKM

Holding the prize for the lowest rate of fire, this weapon also is the only free-of-charge primary weapon in the game so far. Designed for all ranges. Just don't complain when you get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up by people who aren't wielding this thing.

AK-74

AKM but now it's got a higher rate of fire. Mostly just the M4A1, but for communists, anarchists, CS:GO players, and people who have no sense of humor (these are all the same person).

Galil

Man, I wonder.

FAL

Imagine the M14 and the L1A1 having a child. Ok, don't. This is it. With high damage, the FAL can replace any auto-fire in the game. Unless you're surrounded by every bot in the map.

RPK

The M249, but now with faster reload, higher damage, and better iron sights. Pick one up off your local dead Insurgent today!

TOZ

Literally the M950 but smaller. It's also got a sight rail by default. Hipfiring, especially at close range, somehow reduces its damage.

Mosin

The M40A1, but it's wooden. That's it, in terms of stats. Also the oldest gun in the game; markings on the gun say it was made in like, 1930.

Pistols

Makarov

Russian 9mm. Arguably one of the weaker guns in the game. High fire rate, low recoil. Good if your primary's out, or you just gotta run and gun.

Model 10

The only revolver in the game, making it super based. If you reload and the "mag" still has bullets, the rounds drop out anyways, so you waste ammo. Powerful if you're concentrating and really good if you're LARPing as a cop from the mid-20th century, but if your primary is out of ammo and this is your "last stand" gun, expect to die.

M1911

The Insurgents' M45 but way better solely because it's an M1911. Also vintage, again. Otherwise worse than the M45, having lower damage, but also lower recoil.

M45

U.S. Marine Corps pistol, or something. Has the most recoil, and the highest damage, of all pistols. You can rely on it, but not always.

M9

Standard Security pistol. Already has that precious 15 round Extended Mag. Good if you have enough space for a good sidearm.
Equipment
Grenades

M67

Typical American frag grenade. It explodes, but sometimes, it just won't kill, so it's good for dispersing waves of bots. Or dazing enemies.

F1

An M67 but Russian. Looks like an Mk 2 grenade from World War II, except nowhere near as cool.

M18

Smoke grenade. When bots walk into this thing's smoke, they get really confused and walk aimlessly. If they see you, they shoot at you, but they're still blind, so they miss most of the time. Other than that, it's useless, and it obstructs our ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ aim. Stop.

M84

Flash grenade. 99% of the time, it backfires and blinds everyone on your team, and on some servers it's banned. When bots get hit by this, they cover their eyes and run in your general direction.

AN-M14

More or less an incendiary grenade. Its fire effect looks like a flare. Great for destroying caches.

Molotov

The AN-M14 but in a bottle instead of a can. Seeing the cloth won't light itself on fire, the priming time is quite long, but it's large area of effect is worth it. Use it to tell bots to ♥♥♥♥ off.

Launchers and Charges

C4

Breaching charge. The C4 is used mostly for cache destruction, though if placed tactically (like a terrorist planning a bombing against a civilian target), can wipe out multiple enemies.

IED

Same thing as the C4, but for Insurgents. Now you can plant it like a terrorist planning a bombing against a civilian target (tactically) to wipe out multiple enemies.

RPG-7

Infamous rocket launcher used by Insurgents. When fired, players behind you get affected by the blowback, so be careful. Also ends with an accidental teamkill about 30% of the time.

AT4

Same as the RPG-7, but for Security. Supposedly an anti-tank launcher (hence the "AT"), but there are no tanks, let alone useable vehicles, in this game.

Night

NVG

Night vision goggles. Obviously used on night maps. Once turned on, it gets really bright, but it takes time to settle. Also requires at least SOME light in order to work (unless you like the grainiest gameplay ever), especially in shadowy areas, so equip a flashlight in case. But you don't have to. You could just be that guy.

Flare Gun

Can be used to signal other players, for... some reason. Also brightens areas, and disrupts night vision, including yours, which is why nobody uses it. Deals minimum damage, so don't fire it at anyone; it's not even worth it. Actually, don't even use it, period.
Attachments
Optics

Iron

Standard sights on all guns. Can either be ♥♥♥♥ by default, ♥♥♥♥ with mods, or actually really good.

Holographic

Moderate sights based on the EOTech sight line. Zooms in ever so slightly, and is just there to give you sights that aren't made of iron or plastic or both.

Kobra

Reflex sights based on the Russian Kobra sight line. Same as Holographic. Also, the reticle is slightly to the left, which can be easily noticed with some reticles and sight replacements, or with the default Kobra if you're not blind.

Red Dot

Short to mid-range aimpoint sight based on the Aimpoint CompM2. Now you have an actual red dot to unleash your fury on.

x2 Red Dot

Medium to long-range sight based off the Aimpoint CompM2 with the Aimpoint 3XMag magnifier attachment. Same thing as Red Dot but it zooms in times two, y'know?

C79

Medium to long-range sight based on the Canadian Elcan Specter M145 "C79A2". Probably a reference to the fact that Andrew Spearin, the creator of the original Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat mod, was in the Canadian Armed Forces. Good for long range, but you knew that.

PO 4x24

Insurgent version of the C79, based on the PO 4x24P, which is, oddly, one of the rarest scopes in the world. It zooms in a ♥♥♥♥ ton, making it useless for CQC unless you actually use your mic when playing CoD.

Mk4

8.7x magnification scope used by Security. Based on an unknown scope. Mostly the same as the PO 4x24.

7x

7x magnification scope used by Insurgents. Based on an unknown scope. Pretty much a sniper scope, for a reason.

Barrel

Heavy Barrel

Lowers vertical recoil by making the weapon's front barrel heavier. Doesn't affect your overall weapon handling. Unlike it's in-game description, it does not affect weapon spread.

Suppressor

Suppressors are extremely useful attachments. Their main purpose is to reduce a weapon's sound print to increase stealth. Attaching the suppressor also allows the player to negate the muzzle flash of their weapon, making follow-up shots easier. Now, seeing this isn't Payday 2, you can't exactly go full stealth on these guys, but Bots have a chance to not target you, usually if they're not facing you, unless you fire, aim at them, switch weapons, kill their friends, or go too close to them. They can also realize you're there automatically, anyways.

Underbarrel

Foregrip

Reduces recoil and increases stability.

Bipod

Allows player to position the weapon onto a flat surface, reducing recoil, but limiting how much a player can turn. Already on the M249.

M203

Underbarrel grenade launcher for Security. Also comes in a smoke grenade version. Requires you to be at a distance for it to actually explode; if not, it's just a regular bullet that can actually still kill. Pretty useful. Is actually based off an airsoft version of the M203, seeing there's a big bolt near the back, that the real, lethal M203 doesn't have. Apparently.

GP-25

Underbarrel grenade launcher for Insurgents. Also comes in a smoke grenade version. Same thing as the M203, but it's not airsoft. Apparently.

Siderail

Flashlight

Lights up dark areas once turned on. Also adds a bright light effect on your gun, so turn it off outside, you prick.

Laser Sight

Red laser sight that increases your illusion of accuracy, especially when not aiming. It doesn't actually increase the stat. Also unrealistically has the dot in the middle of your screen, that magically moves up once your sights go up. Also doesn't have a line coming from the actual laser module.

Magazine

Drum Mag

Available on the Galil and Galil SAR. Upgrades capacity from 35 rounds to 75 rounds. Recommended.

Extended Mag

Increases magazine space. Available on many weapons, including pistols. Capacity upgrade depends on the actual weapon.

Speed Loader

Only for the Model 10, Speed Loaders jam all six rounds into your gun, instead of loading them in one by one, decreasing preciously needed reload time.

Ammo

Standard

Used on everything except the LMGs, which use Tracer ammo. Standard is, well, standard ammo. All-rounded. Mario's stats in most Mario Kart games. Normal. No effects. Nothing.

Tracer

No, not Overwatch. Tracer ammo increases suppression and lets you know when you're running out of ammo. Tracer ammo also makes a bullet trail to let friendlies know that's you thats firing. Security Forces have red tracers, and Insurgents have green tracers. However, it's quite revealing. The default ammo on LMGs, likely because rapidly shooting rounds others can't see would be pretty unfair.

AP

AP Ammo deals more damage to armored enemies. However, they deal less to unarmored enemies. Useful.

HP

HP Ammo is the polar opposite to the AP Ammo. It deals more to unarmored enemies, but deals less to armored enemies.

Buckshot

Standard ammo for shotguns. Fires 12 pellets in a spread. Useful at mid to close ranges, which is the range you should be using shotguns at anyway.

Slug

Buckshots, but now more close together, causing the shot to become more or less a single shot. Pretty much required for long-range shotgun kills. However, at close range, Slugs are weak.
The Sequel
What do you mean there's a sequel to this guide? With better content and real tips? And it's for the hit 2018 video game Insurgency: Sandstorm? Huh.
