What is Cakeboy?
(Current Game Ver. of this guide: v3.0)

'CAKEBOY' is a minigame hidden inside the game itself that you can play for no additional cost.
It can be accessed at any point of the game as long as you know where it is.
Where To Find It

If you move north of Ragazza Town, you will move up a tile onto the house next to the windmill above and the name of the location is 'Chelshia's House'.

Press the jump button to enter just as you would any normal stage, and you start the stage falling through the roof into the house. Move right from the start and you'll enter a room with a couch and a TV.

Approaching the television will cause a 'talking' emoticon to appear over Chelshia. Press the UP button to interact with the television. The screen goes dark and the title CAKEBOY crawls up the screen.

How to Play
It does a very good job explaining how to play this game, but I will explain things in more detail, and analyze certain characters and enemies.

CAKEBOY
Our main protagonist, Cakeboy himself. I assume he's supposed to be a baker, but he doesn't bake many cakes as much as he finds them on top construction sites. He can jump and drop stuff.

Walk into items to pick them up automatically. You can only hold one item at a time, and your jumping height is severely reduced, but just high enough to grab items directly above him.
When you drop an item, it takes about a second and a half to pick them up again.

NOTE: YOU CANNOT CHANGE YOUR DIRECTION WHEN YOU JUMP

DOORS
Three doors; red, green, and purple will be on every stage, serving as a way to go back and forth between the floors. Some doors are cracked and wil disappear if you go through them. They will re-appear after a while. There is also a single white door which can only be entered when holding the cake. It is the exit of the level.

COLLECTIBLE INGREDIENTS
Three eggs, I assume flour, and a bottle of milk from a cow(girl). They are optional items not needed to complete the stage. You can pick them up regardless of whether you have an item held or not. Collecting any of the three will award you with 500 points.

SNAKE
A goofy-looking green snake that will move in one direction on three different gears of speed. They never stop or change direction, and pass through barricades. If they pass through Cakeboy, you lose your life. They can be eliminated with a well-timed bomb for a bounty of 500 points. At a certain point, they will always move at the fastest speed they can.

FIREBALL
I thought these were supposed to be spinning blades, but apparently they're fireballs?
At Level 10 these will start appearing on the far ends of the stage to ruin your day. Touching these means instant death. They can spawn multiple times in the level. The first fireball will spawn 8 seconds in, and then they spawn 5 seconds after that. They do not appear on levels Darkcake is in. When they appear, they are still for 30 frames, then begin moving. As of 2.0, during the time they are still, you cannot be hurt by them. They move slowly up and down as they go to the other side of the screen where they disappear. Take it slow when these are around, they destroy bombs on touch. When one appears, expect another one shortly. They cannot be destroyed.

NOTE: BOMBS THEY BLOW UP CAN ALSO DESTROY SNAKES, BARRICADES, AND YOU

CAKE
The reason why Cakeboy does the things he does, and the key to exiting the level.
While carrying this, you have the ability to enter white doors, the exit of the stage.
If Cakeboy is really a baker, why doesn't he just make the cakes himself?
Why does he have to go into these life-periling death missions just to get a single cake?
Love makes a man do crazy things.

BOMBS
Your only weapon to fight back with. They start to appear on Level 7. After you pick it up, dropping it will cause the bomb to active. It takes about 3 seconds for bombs to blow up, obliterating everything in a 3x3 block radius.
This blast can hurt you too. You can also pick the bomb back up before it's about to blow to put it out and carry it again.

NOTE: BOMBS CAN'T BE DETONATED WHEN YOU'RE HOLDING THEM
THIS MEANS THAT THEY WON'T EXPLODE FROM THE SPINNERS

BARRICADES
While these immobile roadblocks cannot hurt you physically, they can hurt you in a much worse kind of way: preventing your movement. Normally, it is very easy to simply jump straight over or on top of them, but with an item in hand you are too heavy to jump it. A bomb should do the trick, giving you 200 points for each one you destroy.

DARKCAKE
Darkcake, or 'Evilcake' as I like to call him, is Cakeboy's doppelganger. Darkcake, will start appearing beginning at Level 9, and will spawn every multiple of 3 onward (9, 12, 15, etc.) in the first 5 seconds of the level. He will fall from the sky on the far ends of the stage and start moving at the same pace as a snake at top speed.

Unlike snakes, he can shift between warp to other levels of the stage when he reaches one of the four sides. Also unlike snakes, he can grab the cake when he touches it. If he grabs the Cakeboy, unspeakable things happen. (you die) The only way to get back the cake when Darkcake has it to blow him up with a bomb. When you do this while he has the cake, you get 500 points.
Nail him before he even gets the cake and you will be awarded a whopping 1000 points.

WARNING: DO NOT TRY TO KILL DARKCAKE WHEN HE HAS THE CAKE AND IS IN-BETWEEN THE STAGE; MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF CAKE AND UNWINNABLE STAGE

The Game

The game starts and Cakeboy spawns in front of a white door in a randomly generated level with two floors you navigate Cakeboy through. If you go to the other end of the stage, you will come out the other side.
NOTE: Standing in-between the ends of the stage will make you vulnerable to being attacked from both ends.
Each stage consists of 2 snakes, (a snake on each floor) 4 barricades, (2 on both floors) an ingredient, 3 doors, a cake and a white door.

SCORE
The main reason why we’re here. As you earn points, they will be added to the scoreboard itself a second after. I originally assumed the max cap for the game’s score was 999990 or 999999, but according to Syx himself, the high score limit is “technically very high”.
Mandew pointed out that a signed 32-bit integer caps at 2,415,919,103, but after Syx looked at the game's files, it turns out Game Maker uses double-prescision floating point format.
So, it is actually incredibly high of a cap. He states "1.7976931348623157E+308. probably"
You shouldn't need to worry about the score reaching max.
If you somehow live long enough to get that far. Not the game, I don't mean dying in the game.
I mean dying in real life. Please don't do that to yourself.

LEVEL
The current stage you’re on.
At Level 7, Bombs start appearing.
At intervals of 3, starting from Level 9, Darkcake starts appearing.
At Level 10, Fireballs start appearing.
At Level 12 and beyond, a Book will appear as a spinning card with a question mark. Touch it to collect it, and it will be added to your collection. Once you have collected it, it will not appear ever again.

BOY
The amount of lives you have. You cannot get extra lives.

TIME
The game’s timer is shown at the top right. When you end stage, you get 10 points for every second left on the timer. When it reaches 0, you lose a life. The timer starts at 1:30 from Level 1, then subtracts 5 seconds for each level up to Level 7, when it will stop at 1:00. Play safe, stay smart.
Tips and Tricks
Tips

LOOK FOR THE WHITE DOOR
When you start a new level, you’re just kind of thrown straight in without your pants on. Look for Cakeboy as soon as you enter a new level. There is a good chance a snake will spawn very close to you when you start.

DON’T PAUSE
Pausing is really disorienting. You can’t see anything besides barricades, and when you unpause, everything starts moving without a moment’s notice. Don’t pause unless you are safely out of harm’s way.

DON’T BE RISKY
Do not make any unnecessary risky plays. You cannot get extra lives, and early loss of lives is pretty discouraging.

STICK TO THE PLAN
Don’t get flustered if Darkcake or a spinner spawns as you’re trying to kill a snake, stick to the original plan and use bombs wisely.

Tricks

JUMP HIGH WITH ITEMS
Annoyed by those slow snakes not getting out of your way? Have no fear! There is an (small) exploit you can use to jump normally while holding items. Here’s how to do it:

Step 1. Drop your item of choice and wait for the ‘drop item to pickup’ cooldown is done.
Step 2. Position yourself a few pixels behind your direction of choice.
Step 3. Walk forward and jump.

If you did it correctly, you will do a normal jump and pick up the item in your jump. After you perform this jump, you will go back to having weighted jumps until you drop the item. (NOTE: This is a very small exploit I only advise using on the early stages before bombs appear to get over barricades.)

BARRICADE DESTRUCTION DURING END STAGE
Ever wonder why barricades and dropped bombs still remain when you exit a stage? Who cares! You can exploit it! Simply set a bomb near a barricade and exit the stage and you’ll get extra points as you normally would. The reason why barricades remain is because they’re considered solid blocks, which is why you can still see the girders of the stage.
(This is also why they remain when you die and game over.
Same reason they can also be destroyed and counted as points when you die.)

NOTE: This cannot be used on enemies because they disappear on end stage or death.

LEVEL SELECT
Thanks to Syx for this one
On the title screen, you can use the 1 and 2 keys to skip levels from Level 1 to Level 20
(shows as 19, but starts as 20) This does not affect Steam score submission.

So yeah, that’s the whole gist of it. Thanks for reading my review, I rate it 10/10, Cakeboy is best Khimera girl, rate my guide five stars, and good luck beating my high score.
