The Pitch Hiker's Guide to Berserker
By Dr. Pitch Flake Icaso and 1 collaborators
Killing Floor 2 can be considered a tough game to learn, and that's why we're going to be talking about that class which specializes in MELEE COMBAT and excels at slaughtering immense crowds of LITERALLY EVERYTHING THAT MOVES AND BLEEDS.

YES.

THE MAN

THE MYTH

THE LEGEND

THE BERSERKER

Please remember: This is Satire. I shouldn't have to say that, but remarkably I do.

Let's dive right in.

Chapter One: Utilizing the Basics of Movement Through a Physical but Virtual Plane
As I stated above; The Berserker is a MELEE COMBAT class. If you are to be engaging in MELEE COMBAT you must first recognize the functions that allow you to move your arms and legs. Controlling one's own arms and legs may be difficult, but Killing Floor 2 has made this a very simple action. Simple enough so that anybody with a grand total of 8 fingers and two hands can perform grandiose feats of movement with ease.

We shall now look at the controls so we can master the nnnHN-BARE basics of this fantastic class.

Don't forget, You can sprint in all directions.

Yup. ALL directions.

ALL OF THEM.

LITERALLY ALL OF THEM.

IT WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE AT SOME POINT.

AMAZE YOUR FRIENDS.

WOW YOUR FAMILY.

KONAMI CODE

CHAPTER 2 WILL SHOCK YOU.

Now that we've got a correct handling of how we go about moving our bodies without flailing our limbs into every single object in this virtual realm, let's talk about how we should go about using them to kill imposters.

That's right! IMPOSTERS

See, Zeds aren't normal mindless creatures fit for bludgeoning. They're clones. The argument of whether that means they exist as real individuals or not, is completely overshadowed by the fact they're trying to rip your intestines out in an extravagant gore filled display. It isn't murder, just plea self defense in a court of law.

RIP THEIR SOULS FROM THEIR BODY AND USE THEM TO BECOME STRONGER.
Chapter 2: Class Weapons
Berserker is, as you may remember, A MELEE CLASS, and as such: We will be focusing on the plethora of weapons available to us in the current build of KF2 as per this quaint guide's creation.

Now as we stare at this MASSIVE GATHERING OF BEAUTIFUL TOOLS OF SLAUGHTER, we need to mention the elephant in the room. You may be noticing something missing from the shop list.

Yes! The Knife!

The Knife is a wonderful piece of technology that changes constantly, depending on the class you are currently playing. Using a different class's knife, is ill-advised but if you're using the knife you typically won't care enough anyway. Fun fact: Using a scalpel on a level 25 berserker will actually net you medic exp.

The Lawn-mower blade is an excellent early clot-cyst-slasher weapon since when used to bash with V, is accurate and capable of headshots.

OR YOU COULD JUST USE THE SHOVEL

Now, as we progress through the waves - you've probably gained enough money for your first upgrade. The Katana.

I WOULD PUT A PICTURE HERE BUT REALLY I'M JUST GOING TO MOVE ON TO THE MORE IMPORTANT WEAPONS.

If I speak honestly, which I only sometimes do, the Katana is like one of those malformed steps on a staircase made by jocks in shop class. It's that extra step they added at the bottom of the staircase that is pressed directly up against the pavement due to either a massive change of plan, or a record dash in order to meet the quota to pass the grade. Most of the time with this step, people stub their toes, and other times the mail man trips on it, smashes his face on the nicely furnished wood paint - causing you to suffer from lawsuits for the next two years. Or, if you're a perceptive person, you could just jump over the step because long legs are quite the boon in this day and age.

Let me tell you, the Berserker has quite the long legs.

Which brings us to one of our stronger weapons; The Pulverizer.

The Pulverizer has a bit of a strange feel to it. It's like that one cousin you know and love, but when you bring him along to hang out with your friends - he is only good at a few things. Often because of which, it will drag down you and your friends if it has nothing to do with those few things. The Pulverizer deals primarily blunt damage, which is excellent for annoying team-members since holding S + Left click will send zeds into low orbit, making it neigh impossible for them to headshot; but not very effective at truly killing a Zed flat out with anything less than a W + Left click headshot.

SPOILER ALERT: HEADSHOTS CAN BE DIFFICULT WITH PULVERIZER. REMEMBER TO WEAR PROPER PROTECTIVE GEAR WHEN HANDLING HEAVY MACHINERY.

The Pulverizer, being part hammer and part shotgun has a rather incredible side-effect, but we'll talk more about that later.

THUS, ON THIS DAY WE LEARN OF THE MOST INCREDIBLE OF ALL WEAPONS IN KILLING FLOOR 2, THE GAME THE MOVIE THE GAME.

Now, I know what some of you are thinking:

"Pitch, why should I care about this ♥♥♥♥-balls old sword that I need a have a game in order to use? Isn't that pay to win?"

The answer: is yes.

Everybody has Chivalry, and with how many times it has gone on sale, there's hardly anybody who doesn't already have the game - so playing in online games will likely net you access to this sword at all times.

As for why you should care:

The Zweihander has everything a Berserker needs to be happy.

Ahh, the Zweihander truly is the entire package. But it's more than just your best weapon for top DPS* (*pronounced "deeps"). It is your partner.

Your lover.

She will carry you through hell as long as you care for her, and make sure to rub all that disgusting clone goop off her with your strong,well-toned hands. Your bond needs to be open, like the wounds you'll inflict with high damaging right click attacks - of which literally cleave your foes apart.

It is, by ALL MEANS, a good idea to ask for money from understanding individuals as to why you should get this weapon. Zweihander Wave 2+ Berserker is one of the most incredible money making machines known to Zed-kind. They will double your investment if you make that agreement with them, and kill a ridiculous amount of clones in the process.

However, there have been tales. Tales of a scary place deep in the Multiplayer servers. Of which people would betray the one true partner of the Berserker for another, louder - even less damaging tool. They call it the Eviscerator. Tread carefully, fellow 'Zerkers, for these heretics DARE to threaten our Princess' reign.

After delving into this dark cult in order to try and descern why they would consider such an alternative - I have truly returned empty handed. With every single skill combination and attempt, I have ended each researching segment with more confusion than the last.

Maybe we'll finally get a good top tier melee Berserker weapon someday, so people stop wasting money on expensive things - expecting them to be better.

Chapter Drei: Zeds, Parrying and You
For a while, we've been talking about the Berserker and how he directly affects Zeds. But here's a perplexing thought. What about how Zeds affect the Berserker?

For one, Clots, Cysts and Slashers cannot grab you.

Gorefasts, soon to be considered the most annoying of all Zeds, is even able to block strikes that you may make, with or without our true partner.

Sirens are loud and obnoxious, easily bursting the ears of a low level Zerkling.

Bloats can bully and poison you to death so fast you'll hardly have time to scream "I WANT DRUGS. NOW."

And then there are Scrakes. The prized trophy of the entire Zed pool for Berserkers.

Yes, as the melee class: EVERY ZED WANTS A PIECE OF YOU. PREFERABLY MULTIPLE ONES AND LIKELY ALL AT ONCE.

We've talked about blades, Zeds even have blades...

Blades here, blades there- Wait. That's not a blade.

That's Shielding.

The Berserker is very special in how when you use your ALT-FIRE (Typically Mouse 3 by default unless bound to something else) you can raise your waifu to deflect attacks. The timing on this is precise but allows it to be one of two things.

ALT-FIRE in general with a melee based weapon, is called "Blocking" but when you ALT-FIRE during the attack animation of a melee ZED, it transforms into a beautiful display of fireworks and damage negation.

Parrying is both the most important skill to a Berserker, but still an unrequired skill in general. Small Zeds will be scrambling to grab you in large droves. Parrying them typically doesn't end the best, since another will just smack you instead while the first one-two-seven thirty zeds are stunned in awe from your masterful parry. You're likely better off chopping them up like the psychopath you are.

But when it comes to the big Zed hunting. The big Kahunas. The- um. big. things. Parrying is just something that needs to be learned.

Parrying doesn't have to be super precise. It will be very lenient on when you activate your parry. As long as you start the blocking animation and finish when the weapon is roughly in front of you - You'll typically parry the blow.

Find the Tempo: Right-click, Parry, Right-click.

ALL SCRAKES WILL FALL.

But what about those hideous monsters that spawn on Wave 6+ on Hard-Long? Remember when I said we'd talk later about the Pulverizer?

It kind of speaks for itself.
Chapter Quatre: Choosing your Perk Skills
Skills are a tough subject, because everybody has the ability to make their own build and roll with it.

Ultimately, you'll want to choose the skills that fit your own personal playstyle because that's what good players do.

However, I would like you to Consider The Following.

Survival

Dreadnaught - Health Increase by 75%. VS. Skirmisher - Move 20% Faster, and regenerate 1 point of health every second when using a perk melee weapon.

After very little debate, it should be very simple as to why you should choose Skirmisher. It removes the requirement of reliability from other players. No longer do you need somebody to heal you, because you'll have regenerated your health at a very quick rate. Medics will both thank and hate you, because all of a sudden they shouldn't have to baby you - and won't get any exp for healing you in general.

Combat

Vampire - Heal 4 point of Health for every Zed you kill with Perk Weapons. Attack 20% faster with perk melee weapons. VS. Butcher - Attack 20% faster, and do 25% more Damage with perk melee weapons.

This means you can either slaughter lots of smaller zeds for finite health total, or you can slaughter literally everything because that damage. ooooh bb. that lookin FINE.

CHOOSE BUTCHER

Close Combat

Resistance - Gain 20% Resistance to all Damage. Gain additional 20% resistance to Poison and Sonic Damage. VS. Parry - Parrying with a Perk melee weapon reduces incoming damage 40% and increases both melee attack speed 5% and melee damage 35% for 10 seconds.

Resistance versus Parry is an internal debate for me. Parry is very good, and parrying feels very good. It will never not be something I do, but it also doesn't go out of it's way to require any kind of augment. The beefiness of damage resistance, however - does. The 20% flat damage reduction saves lives, and makes your health regen near GODLY, because you'll be taking minuscule damage.

That's why I choose Resistance.

Power

Smash - Hard Attacks with Perk melee weapons do 50% more damage, do 25% more damage on head hits, and have 200% more stumble power. VS. Massacre - Light attacks with Perk melee weapons do 30% more damage and all attacks with Perk melee weapons are 5% faster.

Since we'll mostly be using the Zweihander as our lady and savior, be sure to pick up Smash, since likely we use Heavy attack anyway. The stumble also helps when fighting scrakes and parrying. You can get a little cheeky with it.

Finally, we have Advanced Training - The Pinnacle of Berserker skills. This level is more than just a bunch of ZED Time themed skills, it's the maximum possible level with this character. Reaching this level is considered becoming the best in your league.

But we all know there's still those individuals out there who perk leveled on a server.

YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE

At this point, either works depending on your playstyle - but I tend to like Spartan.
Chapter Five, Closing Arguments - TL;DR

Hey, did Dodo post their own guide?

Dodo, remember when you said you're going to stop posting and make your own guide? I remember and the comment section does too. Now, arguing directly in my comment section is something I'd prefer to not do, but the fact that it notifies me directly every single time is quite annoying. We are aware the Zweihander has changed. The collective "We" also knows it doesn't have a three hit jab anymore. That was the major reason it was overpowered. However, not owning something is not grounds to hate it. You're allowed your difference of opinion, but the point where it becomes too much is when you won't stop arguing on my lawn. Take it somewhere else, or I'll make it my job to do something about it.

@Goupyl YYEEESS I totaly agree with you. I think the probleme is that a lot of people forget that the Sword changed. When it came out, the Zweï was so OP, but it has been nerfed. Because having an OP weapon available for people who paid more, was against the Tripwire's rules. I'm pleased to heard someone aware about the sword

Shh, it will be "Ok" young one. Just look at the funny pictures.

And ffs stop saying the zwei as more dps ! The game dosen't count damage explosion for the Powhammer ! But otherwise it's a question of feelings. I don't require the reach and im more conforatble with the hammer/shovel system than the sword system. Reach is a small thing when you are efficient.
Goupyl 2 Nov, 2016 @ 12:06pm
Pulve ftw ! Down with the sword ! VIVE LA RESISTANCE ! I'd rather using katana now that it's back. But really stop with the sword it's not that great. Pulve is the best against FP and a blow to the sc head is a crit so... Hammer power. (But really screw all of that when the shield and mace is out).

@Ansam I kill trash super fast when I use parry and massacre with the katana. Additionally, The katana's bash is a stab, allowing for easy headshots against a blocking gorefast.
