I suspect the episodic nature, therefor, is set up for similar purposes. There just isn't any more game to be had. Ship whatever you can to recoup costs, use whatever funding you can spare with incoming sales to continue work on the rest of the game. It would've helped a lot to put Edge of Twilight in Early Access, but given it's a game that goes back to 2006, it's unlikely people would be receptive to buying a work in progress that's a decade old. Kind of a lose-lose situation for everyone.

It's definitely not finished, but what I imagine is that funding ran out around 2009-2010. Publisher Southpeak went out of business just a few years later, so it's not unlikely that they couldn't support the scope of the project. So whatever Alpha build they had then, was all the resources they would be able to handle, textures included. It still runs on Unreal Engine 3 and lacks a lot of weight and blending, which is a staple for under-produced UE3 games. I wanted to include that in the video, but it would kinda stretch the review too much. Just look at games like Afterfall or Scourge: Outbreak and you'll notice a similar look.

Which is likely why there are multiple attempts at gathering a new start or funds with things like an iOS spinoff or an Indiegogo campaign that still needed $350,000: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/edge-of-twilight-return-to-glory-game-rpg#/
