Flipping/Sides: To speed up time to kill, harvesting and protecting your buildings. Place Defensive structures on one side and all the rest on the other save for one exception denoted next.
Warehouse: A warehouse is a 0 stone, 0 tree structure that can be deconstructed with no penalty. You do not lose any resources if destroyed. Place one of these in the corner of your Defensive side. Now you have a free 100hp AI target. This also helps when exploring as you dont need to flip sides.
Repair Kits: Repair kits are your best friend! @20 credits, they will fully repair all structures. Often this is more cost effective than repairing individually except at the very beginning. They are however useful at the beginning. Repair kits can be used during battle. Structures are expensive, the moment you see one smoke, use a repair kit.
Progression: As you destroy infected strongholds, note that 2 things happen. Defensive structures that weren't visible become available. Hostile people begin to appear, they will attack you inside your base. Your free individuals will defend (or can be used to attack).

also, if you're going to engage one of the 6 main targets stock up on wood and repair kits first, when you engage immediately use one kit on the enemy's first volley, then immediately build trees on destroyed tiles as a buffer against their next volley.

use trees as walls early game, surround your tile with trees as it only cost one wood.
