For anyone that wants to change this themselves, you could just delete the files related to the spikeball, takes about five minutes including the time it takes to look up a guide to figure out how to unpack & repack mods [community.playstarbound.com].
You don't need to look up a non workshop version to do this. Just open starbound, click the gear icon on bottom right main menu, locate this mod, and it should list the file path.
Once unpacked, delete the files below, then repack it and replace the original file.
tech\distortionsphere\spikesphere.lua
tech\distortionsphere\spikesphere .tech.patch
Glad I read the comments before I bothered to subscribe.
Sounds potentially like a great idea, I'll look into it the next time I'm playing the game itself, since that's pretty much the only time I developed this mod further.
