Areas
When you first start Void Raiders you will be in your base. This is where you choose your character, upgrade your characters, use skill points that you earned while leveling, assign which artifacts you'd like to use, change the music track on the jukebox, and choose which Lone Invader Tavern perk you'd like to use. I'll go into more detail about all of that in the "Progression" section. For now, I'd like you to have a basic understanding of how the areas work.

To start playing, Click on the NPC that says "Click Me Boss". This will open up a menu that allows you to choose your character, spend skill points, upgrade gear, and start missions. To start a mission choose which character youd like to play and click the green button with 3 arrows.

The goal of the missions is to collect a certain amount of objective items which will allow you to move on to the next level. Every 5 levels you will fight a boss. When you beat a boss he will drop a chest that contains credits and materials you will need to upgrade your equipment. The objective items you collect to pass levels can be used to enter side-areas that youll randomly find along the way. By entering a side-area you will automatically pass the level you were previously on.

As you play the difficulty will increase periodically until it gets too hard and you die. This is based on how long your run is, not what level you are currently on. So you can save time by entering side-areas which will allow you to get to the bosses faster.

Characters
In Void Raiders you can choose to play one of three characters. Each character can get up to level 10 and each of them has unique attacks and skills you can put points into when you level up. Each character has an energy bar which is used primarily for their right click attack. Each character is equipped with Headgear, Armor, and a Shield that you can upgrade. You can switch characters when you start the game or after you die. When you die your characters will keep their experience and will keep their Headgear, Armor, and Shield. I'll go into more detail about how items work later on in the guide. Here's a quick summary of what to expect from each character:

Boris:
Left Click = Sub-machine gun that shoots fairly fast.
Right Click = Shoots exactly like his left click but faster.
Passive Skill = When Boris runs out of ammo in his gun his rate of fire slows down heavily and he uses his energy as ammo.

Boris is a pretty simple and easy to use character and what sets him apart from the other characters is he has skills that give him more life. I forgot to mention that he can get one drone to follow him around and shoot things if he spends a point on it.

Tina:
Left Click = Two Sub-machine guns with a great rate of fire and feel similar to Boris' left click attack.
Right Click = Shoots bullets all around Tina and she moves towards your mouse location. This attack does not use ammo, it only uses energy. Her shield amount is doubled while using this attack.
Passive Skill = Gains a small amount of ammo periodically.

Tina is fairly easy to use just like Boris except her right click is a little more interesting. You can choose to have her right click give you health and ammo with skill points which makes you never run out of ammo and the health keeps you alive, obviously.

Gudrun:
Left Click = A shotgun with a medium rate of fire.
Right Click = A quick dash that covers alot of ground but doesnt do any damage unless you pick skills that make it do damage. This uses about half of your energy bar and you have to wait 3 seconds before dashing again
Passive Skill = Well... it's not really a passive, but, oh well. Pressing the space bar will switch from your shotgun to a sword that can deal damage and can knock away enemy bullets. It doesnt do as much damage as the shotgun but its fun and it's good to have in case you run out of ammo. Press the space bar again when you want to switch back to your shotgun.

Gudrun is my favorite character. Shes a little more difficult than the other characters but she is really fun. Having a dash lets her move around the level quickly and you can choose to spend a skill point to make it do great damage and it can also make you invulnerable for a second. I have more ammo issues with her than the other characters but its not a very big deal. She doesnt need it. She can also choose a build focused around drones that fly around and protect you while you kill everything.

Supply Drop:
Pressing Q on the keyboard with any character calls for a supply drop. Supply drops will deliver a couple health and ammo packs to you. This can only be used once every 90 seconds.

Progression
As you play the game your characters will become stronger by leveling up, unlocking artifacts, and upgrading your equipment. You only need to level up each character once because they get saved to your base. Here I'll give you some info about how progression works and how dying affects you.

Leveling up:
When you kill enemies you gain experience and your character will level up. Leveling up gives you 1 skill point per level that you can use to make your character stronger. The maximum level for each character is 10 which means you will end up with 9 skill points.

Each character has two skill trees and you can press the R on your keyboard to reset your skills.
Each skill tree feels a little different than the other one. The last skill on the skill tree is typically pretty strong and since you can only get 9 skill points you can only choose one of those strong skills at a time, although you can split your points between the two trees however you like. All of the skills are passive.

Equipment:
Each of your characters has Headgear, Armor, and a Shield. You can upgrade each piece multiple times. In order to upgrade them you will need to kill bosses and kill enemies in side-areas to farm certain materials which can be used to upgrade your equipment. You wont find any headgear, armors, or shields from enemies. Your equipment just basically increases your characters stats.

The materials you use to upgrade your equipment is shared between all three of your characters, so you can use a character you are good with to farm them and use them to upgrade your equipment on another character.

Artifacts:
When you kill enemies they will drop credits. Credits can be used during a playthrough to purchase artifacts. In the middle of levels you will see places where you can spend credits to buy a random artifact. When you complete the objectives of a level and return to the elevator you will be shown three random artifacts and you have the option to purchase one of them each time you beat a level. You don't have to worry about running out of space, you can use all of the artifacts together. If you buy multiple of the same artifact it will stack with itself to give a higher bonus.

Artifacts can also drop from enemies but I'm not sure if they only drop from bosses or if all enemies can drop them.

When you beat a side-area you will have the option to buy either some stronger artifacts or a skill that will make you invulnerable for a few seconds.

The artifacts that you buy and find will be lost when your character dies. However, your Artifact Vault in your base will allow you to start with up to 3 artifacts of your choice each time you die and have to restart. These artifacts don't cost anything to use or unlock.

In the center of your base is a chest which is known as your Artifact Vault. Your Artifact Vault lets you equip artifacts to your characters. You unlock more artifact slots by beating each boss. As you play you will unlock better artifacts to use in your artifact vault. The artifacts in your artifact vault are not lost when your character dies.

Lone Invader Tavern Perks:
If you click on the bartender of the Lone Invader Tavern, you will be able to select one of five perks that will help you on your journey. Heres a list of them and what they do:

Medical Liquor - Increases the effectiveness of health and ammo packs that you find.
Ancient Tea - Gives you a chance for discounts on artifacts when you beat a level.
Boomer - Replaces your Supply Drop skill with Orbital Strike. Orbital Strike deals damage in an area
Underdeck Lager - Start your run with 5 Data cores and 5 Voide cores, these are some of the objective items that will allow you to enter side-areas
Tritonian Twistler - Replaces your Supply Drop skill with a skill that teleports you back to the elevator. this is really good for speed runs.

Bosses
Quartermaster:
This is a really straightforward fight. All he does is walk around and occasionally he will shoot at you for a few seconds. There are health and ammo packs on the edges of the level if you need them.

Ripper Overlord:
This boss doesnt attack you but other enemies will attack you and he has a shield that you cant shoot through unless you stand next to all four of the computers located in the corners of the map. You will have to stand next to them for a few seconds. Once you have activated all four his shield will drop for about 10 seconds. Repeat that until he dies. FYI Gudrun can melee through his shield with her sword ;) There are health and ammo packs around the edges of the level.

Void Industries Gunship:
This is the last boss and he is pretty easy once you figure out his mechanics. He has two attacks and also spawns enemies to attack you.
Mega Laser - He has a meter that fills up and when it's full he shoots a laser in front of him that will kill you. You can avoid it by hiding behind the groups of boxes on the sides of the level. You can only hide behind each set of boxes once. You can basically just ignore all the other enemies and his secondary attack and just focus on either doing damage to him or hiding from his laser.
Secondary Attack - Shoots out two lines of bullets in your direction. They are really easy to dodge but you dont really need to dodge them.

FYI there are groups of health and ammo packs in the middle of the map.
Speedrunning Achievement Tips
  • Gudrun's Dash is an amazing mobility tool because it allows you to cover alot of ground. It can also one-shot the weaker enemies if you use the right build.
  • Don't be afraid to skip enemies. Just focus on getting to the objectives A.S.A.P.
  • The Lone Invader Tavern perk that replaces your supply drop for a skill that teleports you to the elevator is amazing. If the elevator is really close to the last objective ill just walk and save the teleport for the next level.
  • Side-areas are a great way to get to the bosses faster. It allows you to skip looking for the objectives and still get one level closer to the boss level.
  • Tina can use a skill point to make herself move faster while holding down right click.
  • The timer gets paused when you are in the elevator so you can take your time to pick which artifact you want.
Misc Achievement Tips
  • If you are having trouble surviving Genocide difficulty you can afk in a boss room after the boss is dead and wait until you get the achievement.
  • If you are having trouble getting 1000 credits you can also afk in a boss room after the boss is defeated as long as you have a money box.
  • Choosing to use a Crown of Thorns or Dark Talisman in your artifact vault makes it easier to get to 8 stacks.
  • Buying Money Boxes whenever you can provides a huge amount of credits in the long run and allows you to buy more artifacts overall in the late-game when they get ridiculously expensive. This will help you stay alive longer and should help you get more achievements.
