Introduction
Hi this is a quick and dirty on how to use Steam's formatting system, which, quite frankly, could use a little love
Headers
What is formatting?

It makes things look nice, like look at the header I made right there, it can be used to organize thoughts and to make things look less like walls of text. To do this, type
followed by
, and you will have a cool looking header! To get this to work, just remove the commas, as that is the only thing that is letting you read that as plain text, without the commas it would look like this:

followed by
Bold
But what if I need to make a statement that people take seriously?

Then bold it, it is really similar to making a header, you start with square brackets, then use the bold ("b") and close with square brackets. Put you text in the middle and close it with the same square brackets, but put a / before the b. Finish with your square brackets. This is what it should look like this:

this
Underlining
What if something is so important it needs something to stand on?

Underline it dammit!! It is the same as bolding, just replace the "b" with a "u" and u are good to go!! (Yes you can hit me for that one)
Italics
What if I'm feeling fancy?

Use your italics, it is the same as bolding, but you use an "i" instead of a "b", honestly i couldn't make this any easier.
Strikethrough Text
And if I'm sarcastic? Or I'm wrong and for some reason want to strike it out instead of editing?

Just cross it out! Admittedly this is where things get a little tricky, as instead of using a letter, we get to start using words! Look at that, your first words, how cute!! It is the same formatting as before, with the [] and the /, but you will use "strike" instead of "b". It looks like this [strike] and you are now instantly pardonned for all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you have ever done[/strike]:

and you are now instantly pardonned for all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you have ever done
Spoilers
I just saw Star Wars and HAVE to talk about it!!

Call spoilers, jeez, how rude could you be, spoiling the ending for someone. It works just like strike, but you replace "strike" with "spoiler". It would look like
this
. And this is the end result.
Noparse
By now you have probably started wondering how I made all of the text between the formatting not format.

And I do that by using "noparse" it functions exactly like everything previous, but "noparse" is used instead of whatever you where using prior. This is how you show someone how to bold something. And yes, it did take me a while to make sure I had the formatting right on that last string.
Links
This is where things get exciting[i.imgur.com]

Thats right ladies and gents, we have the technology, we are linking the internet!!! Things get hard here though. You start with your traditional [], and inbetween your first [] you put "url=" now after that you need a link, so we will choose this one for our example: http://i.imgur.com/hGvrbzd.webm . You put that after your "=" but before "]". Then you type your text and close it with your square brackets, and /url. This is what it is typed as: And this is what it will look like: Magic right?[i.imgur.com]
Lists
Now we have all had things to do, and with Steam you can make lists to oraganize your entire life!

Here is a look at my life:

 • Sleep
 • Play games
 • Grease the pipe
 • More games
 • Eat
 • Repeat

Now if you wanted to make a fancy list like this, you start with your brackets and list, followed by some wierd stuff that I'll show below:

This

Is

How

You

Make

A

List
Ordered Lists
But what if I can only survive if my lists are numbered, we have to have priorities, right?

Then order your list, this can be done by putting an "o" infront of "list" as you can see here:

[olist]

Happy

Now

?[/olist]

It ends up looking like this:

 1. Such
 2. Cool
 3. Much
 4. Formatting
Quoting
What if I don't want my English teacher of years past to yell at me for plagiarism?

Believe it or not, we can quote things! This is similar to linking things, but you replace "url" with "quote", and after the "=" you put the name of the person you are quoting. Code
And finally, if for some reason you need to display code, you can!

It changes the font, and keeps all of the spaces that you put between the brackets. Just use "code" instead of whatever you where using before. It looks like
this when you type it
, and when used it looks like this:
Remember when I said it keeps spaces :D
Conclusion
Thats all folks, I hope you enjoyed todays Steam adventure, tomorrow, we are going to find Gabe Newell's house through the magic of Steam support, that should take us 6-12 weeks, right? /s

@Max
I think those might be unique to guide formatting. I don't know how to make them, though.
They seem to be what makes a new quick link in the Guide Index.

How did you make those lines in between segments? Its not just HR. Its something else because the color is gray.

iirc, strike used to be simply [.s] and not the entire word spelled out, correct? (no period, ofc)
Any good reason to use the full word and not the shortened one? Just curious.
