A character guide that can help you understand how, where, and why a certain character should be played. The guide was made because there were people running around not knowing how to play their character. I believe this will, in time, breed smarter and more skillful players. Includes combos and match-up's.

Hello, well lets face it. This game is dead or is dying or never lived, whatever you want to say about it. However when the game had players it was fun and refreshing, I got fairly into it. I started making this guide a long time ago, back when it would have maybe been read by someone at least. But as the game slowed down and finding a game took an hour at a time, I soon found myself not working on this at all. I only finished (kinda) Zic and Chris, and partly Iron Fist. Sad Face.

And here we are now, for some reason i found this and I read some of it over and thought, screw it. I am going to make this free domain for anyone who wants it, for any reason. I mean its not like anyone will look at this anyhow, but I thought I'd just put it out there since I happened upon it recently.

Introduction


Welcome fellow CroNix players, I would like to introduce the character guide. Much of this guide will be taking in that you know how to play the game, that you know the controls, and that you understand the lingo; however I will fill you in if you are unsure about some things.
In this guide we will use the following terms:
  • Neutral = When a character is standing still or basic moving with the Arrow Keys but NOT running.
  • Grounded = When a character is laying flat on the ground. Before they stand up.
  • Continuer = When a character is carried up and out of Grounded. Continuing possible damage.
  • Counter Hit = Landing an attack while the enemy was NOT Neutral. doing 10 ~ 20% more damage.
  • Ranged Armor = Taking ranged hits from that direction will NOT stagger you, however you will still take damage but continue your action.
  • Super Armor = Taking any hits from that direction will NOT stagger you, however you will still take damage but continue your action.
  • Hyper Armor - Taking any hits from all directions will NOT stagger you OR damage you. Your character will glow golden when in effect. Gained for a very brief moment of time when recovering from Grounded.
  • Shift Action = When performing certain skills while holding the SHIFT Key. Requires SP.
  • AP = The resource required to run or use skills. Recovered over time at 10AP per second; or by the R Key, recover all at once.
  • SP = The resource required to use Shift Actions and the F skill. Gained over time.
  • EP = The resource required to use certain skills, dependent on character.
  • ML = The left click on your mouse. Every character's basic attack.
  • MR = The right click on your mouse. Character's unique skill.
  • Q / E / SB (SPACE) = The Key pressed in order to perform a unique skill.
  • F = Every character's ultimate skill, requiring 75% of your SP.
  • Sub Skill = An action that can only be performed after the use of certain skills, example "Chris : SB ML/MR : " ML or MR being the Sub Skill.

    I'll list actions between 2 colons (: :), a greater than sign (>) is to represent a separate action; if there is NOT a greater than sign then it is a Sub Skill, example = "Chris : SB ML > Q > E : "
Now that those are out of the way, lets get down to business. This Guide will also be fashioned as a tier list: evaluating each character for performance, and ranking them accordingly; therefore the guide will be formatted in such. Please take into account the order they are in, even if they are same in Rank they can still be slightly more or less efficient than each other.
Use the tabs to find the character you are looking for, if not, please take your time.
Zic

Rank / Tier : S+
Now lets talk top tier shall we. Zic is the best character in the game, I'm just going to state that, move on, no explanation required. But if you must understand why, then lets get down to it.

Role : Assaulter
As an Assaulter your job is to attack the enemies' line, their defences, battling other Assaulters, but mainly pick off the back line, where all their supports are and peeling for teammates. Zic does this without effort, he can move freely since it once takes 20 AP to : SB :, his skill which lets him dash. He can get around other Assaulter's attacks or skills with : SB :, as well as get to any support that is causing problems. More likely than not you're not going to catch Zic in any bad positions, even if that happens he can handing the enemy/ies or escape without trouble. Best part yet, these do NOT come at a cost, meaning Zic's damage, attack range, AP usage, defence, skills, or even his : F : are not compromised in anyway or form.

Performance :
Zic performs his best anywhere, anywhere he can attack his enemy and do some damage.
  • From this chart's reflection, the statements above are proven by Zic having the highest Mobility of any other character in the game.
  • His Attack is pretty high as well, not the highest but, with what combos Zic can do and the rate at which he can perform them, that's not a problem.
  • Please notice the Attack Speed on his chart, it is also the highest in the game, which makes sense because Zic is really good at getting in fights fast as he attacks faster than you can.
  • He can take a few blows, but Zic's Survivality is one of his only weaker points, his Survivality isn't bad, its just not great.


    The chart does not do him justice by giving him very little Interrupt and Range; Zic has both, in decent amounts.

    His attacks take a shorter amount of time to perform, in turn, making him good at interrupting, as well as his : SB E : to interrupt enemies attacking his team. While Zic's range is not a problem either, his : SB : is great at getting close or far from anyone/thing; at the same time Zic can travel around the map at high rates of speed, adding to his range of possibilities.

Details :
What makes Zic who he is, is his : SB :. It's what lets him do most of all his maneuvers for combos, Continuers, best course of action, you name it. As a Zic player you must use his speed and quickness, attack Assaulter first, Helena if available. If you can get a straight shot to the backline; Supports, Iron Fist, Liu Lian, and you believe no one else can stop you; go for it, Zic can kill weaker enemies within a few seconds. Watch out for Super Armor, it counters just about everything, including Zic so if an enemy timed it right, you could be playing right into their hands. Remember to help your team, his speed allows him to peel enemies off of teammates, or get the kill on a Grounded target that's not quite dead yet.
    Useful Skills : Most of all of his skills can start combos, using what is right for that moment is best.
  • Zic's : MR : has good range while holding forward; try starting most combos with this move also, this skill sends the enemy highest in the air.
  • : Q : is good to get out of perssure; if there are enemies standing next to you, as you go from Grounded to Neutral, using this skill can be used as a reversal.
  • His : SB MR : or : E : are really good as Continuers; if your teammate is attack an enemy and they go into Grounded, using these skills will add up damage and start combos.
  • : SB E : is great for approaching supports and far targets; the skill has its own movement build-in, using it will further move Zic forward at high speeds, can also start combos. And because of the forced movement, doing : SB E : away from an enemy can allow you to dodge an incoming attack, then quickly Counter Hit.
  • Zic's : F : is strong in groups of enemies, but don't be afraid to use it; it will pull enemies of a close distance inward. Sending living targets right in front of you, it makes a perfect set-up for Contiuners.
    Match-Up's : Zic is such a great character that he has very little match-up problem.
  • - Bad : Heabig; his Super Armor on most of his abilities make it hard for Zic to approach, and his health and defence are large enough to survive most of Zic's combos. Taking your time fighting him would be best, try keeping at least 40~50AP at all times in the fight, watch for slow movements towards you, he might be trying to bait you into attacking first.
  • - Bad : Claire; she can perform a handful of Super Armor skills that can make it hard to fight her, she also has quite a bit of health, but doing more damage than Heabig. Fighting her can be tricky, watch out for her : ML MR : or : E :, once she does one of those you can try and make your move in that opening, you are a lot faster than she is.
  • + Good : Any ranged character & mostly everyone else; Zic can get in and out of combat, he can also dodge ranged skills with : SB : and get in close, once they are Grounded they should be dead, if not, they can't run far. Watchout for range character that have melee skills, don't stand too close to them as they move from Grounded to Neutral.
    Combos : Zic can make just about any one of his skill combo into another, so we are going to focus of performance and style. Note that most of all of these can be started, or started mid-way, on a Grounded target using : SB MR :, also thses combos were done using 120 AP
  • : MR > ML ML > Q > (Forward) MR > ML ML > Q > SB MR > ML ML > E : best, highest damage without : F :
  • : SB E > SB MR > ML ML > Q > (Forward) MR > ML ML > Q > E :

Iron Fist

Rank / Tier : S+
Iron Fist is the best ranged character in the game, if you are looking for someone who has knockback, interrupt, damage, range, and more damage. Then he's the man for you.

Role : Assaulter
As an Assaulter your job is to attack the enemies' line, their defences, battling other Assaulters, but mainly pick off the back line, where all their supports are and peeling for teammates. Funny thing is, most of the time Iron Fist is part of that backline, he just does so much damage that, so I believe, gets him into the Assaulter role. His main skill is Sniping Shot : Q : it does a lot of damage and knocks back enemies. Combined with his basic attack, which does pretty good damage itself, and Iron Fist's : SB : which will give him an attack for both; basics and : Q :. However the buff come at a cost of not being able to run, and he does not have a great walking speed. Just like all other range characters, Iron Fist's downfall is close combat; the best thing to hope for is that either a teammate comes to help or landing : E :

Performance :
Iron Fist performs his best behind a team, yet in range for his basics' and : Q :'s damage.
  • He has the most range in the game, and not only that, he has great knockback skills; allowing him to stay at the perfect ranges he wants to be.
  • His Attack is the highest out of all range characters as well, doing as much damage as a melee character yet from afar is really strong in teamplay.
  • Please note the survivability, its pretty low due to the fact Iron Fist's low melee options, and low options to deal with melee characters.
  • As well as his Mobliity, he can be really slow moving. And his : SB : disables running, yet if he has a team supporting him he should be fine.

    I disagree with the chart in the fact that Iron Fist does have Interrupt and, to some extent, has some support qualities.

    His attacks are ranged, I believe that all ranged characters have a little bit of interrupt at least, as well as his : Q : and : MR : they can interrupt other ranged enemies as well. While I wouldn't give him the best support rating, I feel that his knockbacks can help the team move into postion, as well as get targets Grounded as others can use Continuers.

    Useful Skills : Most of all of his skills are one time hitters, no real complex actions.
  • Iron Fist's : Q : is his bread and butter, this skill is used as the main source of damage. Use the knockback to space yourself from melee targets, also the skill has more range than you can see, just barely but it's important to note.
  • : E : is great for getting rid of pressure, the skill has more range than it seems as well. Since it has range and it's a melee attack, you can use it on Gordon's : F : and Cyrano's : Q : because of their Ranged Armor.

    Match-Up's : Iron Fist is a ranged character, so he has common problems fighting melee.

Chris
Rank / Tier : A
This a character that can hit hard, really hard. Chris moves around the battlefield striking down the first enemy he can lay his hands on. Yet has some trouble with melee targets.

Role : Assaulter
As an Assaulter your job is to attack the enemies' line, their defences, battling other Assaulters, but mainly pick off the back line, where all their supports are and peeling for teammates. As Chris moves through the fight he can pick off many people in only a couple of moves, as he very hard, it will only take one combo in most scenarios. His : SB : allows him to either run into the battle fast enough so the target can't react, or run around defences and get to the backline. Most of Chris's moves have build-in movement, allowing him to cover the distance that his enemy can't. His : MR : having Ranged Armor lets him get real close to supports and even Iron Fist with out a problem, as he only need to survive the attack as he moves in closer.

Performance :
His performance is best when he can be defended from other melee character, leting him focus on the ranges enemies.
  • His highlight is his damage, the chart shows him having the second highest Attack in the game. Even one skill can do around 1500~2000 damage.
  • The Attack Speed on this chart is a little high for me, but his attacks can be really quick in speed. Making his attacks hard to dodge.
  • Chris's Mobility is really good for getting more options out of fights. You can attack the enemy head on but fast, or move around the defence using : SB :.
  • One of his short comings is the fact that he can be extremely predictable. Chris doesnt have many tools in order to approach, most likely you will be using : SB :.


    Chris's lack of defence sets him up for failure when fighting melee characters. Although that does not mean he is helpless, players just need more timing, skill, coordination, and patience.

    Much of the time in battle you will have yourself running low on AP, which is another problem with him. His skills hit hard but come at a high AP cost.


Details :
Chris need to be fast, you need to be the first to attack because he is not good at handing pressure. Using space is good for his combat, since his skills have movement bulit-in Chris can move up close faster than others. Having : SB : to move into fights is a strong way to pick off enemys that were unaware of your approach. Chris's Ranged Armor on his : MR : is really good to either get out of fights or dodge knockback and stagger moving in on the backline. It will be likely that you will get in stand offs with other melee characters, waiting for them to make the first move might be best, wait for an opening from a mistake from your spacing and move in fast.
    Useful Skills : Be mindful of your AP usage, finding yourself recovering is common.
  • : MR : is his go to skill in most cases, it has range, damage, and the Ranged Armor. The first his will send the target flying upward; using : MR ML : to start most of his combos is the most common outcome, but using : MR MR : to send the enemy far from you is an option that can be useful getting out of pressure and away from melee characters.
  • Chris's : SB : is a strong tool for him to appoach enemies. The : SB ML : is a good way to start a quick combo for an easy kill. : SB MR : can be just the thing you need when an enemy is running away or is around the corner.
  • His : F : is normally just an one person focused attack, it does a lot of damage and can be comboed into. Using it to kill that one player that is causing problems, or Helena so the team can't heal. Chris also gains Hyper Armor while doing the move, but be careful as the first hit only has a narrow Super Armor frontwards; it has a small radius, allowing others to interrupt you before you can land the starting hit.
    Match-Up's : Chris has a hard time dealing with other melee fighter mostly, but if played well you can win the battle.
  • - Bad : Heabig; His Super Armor on his skills make it hard for any melee fighter, but it's worse with Chris; as he already had problems. There's not much you can do other than use : SB : to catch him off guard, or try to bait out his : Q : and attack within the opening he gives. You out range him, minus his : MR : so use it to your advantage.
  • - Bad : Claire; She is really good at fighting other melee fighters, so it is obviously a hard match-up for Chris. She out classes you in range and has Super Armor waiting for you to attack, stay clam and wait for her to : ML MR : if you can, move in with : MR : and start a combo. Hitting her with : SB : skills will be harder as well, bait out the : Q : or : ML MR : again then attack.
  • - Bad : Zic; He is the best fighter in the game, so of course Chris is going to have problems. Zic will be using his low AP costs to out last Chris, as well as his ability to move quickly in and out of danger compared to Chris. Going offensive will be really hard against him,
  • + Good : Ranged or Anyone else; ( * * * * * Needs Text * * * * * )
    Combos : Chris's combos hit hard, very hard, but do take up a lot of AP, because of this he will consistently be having to recover in fights.
  • : MR ML > MR ML > Q > E :
  • : MR ML > MR MR > E : remove the : E : and this can be used to make space
  • : SB ML > Q > E :
  • : SB ML > MR MR > E : requires Great timing, not recommended for actual combat
