Hello and Welcome to my Skyrim Tutorial guide for compainions. In this guide I hope to share all my knowlegde and wiki knowledge about companions and their difficlties. So in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim you can have a companion who will follow you around and fight along side you, aswell as this they can carry your things and also use them. You can not choose what they use out of what they give them. TO gain a compaion you may have to do some quest or give them items but it depends on who you want as your follower. Followers specialize in a variety of Skills ranging from Combat, Magic, Stealth, Smithing, Speech, Alchemy, and Enchanting. However, skills outside of Combat, Magic, and Stealth cannot be directly benefited from. Some followers can train you in there specialised skill as some skill trainers can be your follower. It is only possible to have one human follower at a time unless additional followers are gained via a quest. In most cases, there is no penalty for dismissing a follower and then re-recruiting the follower later. Some followers can marry the Dragonborn but not all. Other followers can be spawned using magic and will not count as a permenent follower so can be used in addition to a regular human follower. Followers will match the current level of the Dragonborn's Character, up to a certain level cap. Morale varies from Follower to Follower, some like the Housecarls, will always fight to the death while others will flee in battle. Fortunately for followers, enemies will tend to ignore them once their health is depleted and turn their attention to the Dragonborn or any other allied characters. This condition is easily spotted, as the follower will drop to one knee and stay in that position for a short period of time.

Followers can;
-Attack another individual or creature.
-Wait at a given location, or just simply wait.
-Use an object.
-Open a locked door or container.
-Pick up individual items or take everything from containers.
-Sleep in a bed.
-Sit on chairs and benches, although they will, unless told to wait, usually stand back up.
-Activate a shrine to receive its blessing.
-Perform jobs such as wood chopping, excluding mining.
-Leave the Dragonborn's service.
-Pickpocket: The Dragonborn must remain undetected.

They can also carry most items in game and do infact have a weight limit. When it is reached items will be greyed out because that item will over-encumber the follower. They cannot carry quest items once recognised by the dragonborn as a Quest Item.

Housecarls are sort of bodyguards granted by Jarls as tokens of appreciation after becoming a Thane. Here is a table of the Housecarl Followers you can have;

These followers are granted / found at each faction and can be obtained by reward or quest. Here is a table of Faction Followers, College of Winterhold Followers;

The Companions Followers;

The Dark Brotherhood Followers;

Here are the Mercenaries Followers which are obtained like most compainions. Here is a table of the Mercenaries Followers;

Like Housecarl followers these Compaions are quest related followers obtained as rewards. Here is a table of the Quest Reward Followers;
