The one thing that this first game does very well is to give a lot of background information and to set up the different characters. Despite their wooden presentation they are believable characters and it's fun to see some of them return in parts 2 and 3. Everything you see happening in parts 2 and 3 makes a lot more sense once you know what happened in this first game.
In retrospect the wooden presentation of the main character does make some sense story wise so it might have been a conscious choice of the voice actor, but still could've been handeled better. But I won't go any further into that because of spoilers.
Don't forget to save often and enjoy the game!
