[CS:GO] How to get out of 'Nova (Elo) Hell'
By Daniel and 1 collaborators
If you are really struggling in the Gold Nova section of the CSGO ranks, and you are having trouble getting out of it, this is the in-depth guide you've been looking for. This guide will simply get you to a more advanced and at a better level; even at a stage, where you can call yourself, a Master Guardian.

DISCLAMIER
This guide is not a guarentee that you will become a global elite. There are smurfs that ruin people's experience, but they are not in every single game. This guide won't turn you into a god, but a 'semi-pro'.

What the hell is 'Elo' or 'Elo Rating System'?
Wikipedia has a excellent explanation of what the 'Elo' system is, Check it out.[en.wikipedia.org] If you can't be asked to click on the link, this is what it says: Originally posted by Wikipedia: The Elo rating system is a method for calculating the relative skill levels of players in competitor-versus-competitor games such as chess.

The difference in the ratings between two players serves as a predictor of the outcome of a match. Two players with equal ratings who play against each other are expected to score an equal number of wins. A player whose rating is 100 points greater than their opponent's is expected to score 64%; if the difference is 200 points, then the expected score for the stronger player is 76%.

A player's Elo rating is represented by a number which increases or decreases based upon the outcome of games between rated players. After every game, the winning player takes points from the losing one. The difference between the ratings of the winner and loser determines the total number of points gained or lost after a game. In a series of games between a high-rated player and a low-rated player, the high-rated player is expected to score more wins. If the high-rated player wins, then only a few rating points will be taken from the low-rated player. However, if the lower rated player scores an upset win, many rating points will be transferred. The lower rated player will also gain a few points from the higher rated player in the event of a draw. This means that this rating system is self-correcting. A player whose rating is too low should, in the long run, do better than the rating system predicts, and thus gain rating points until the rating reflects their true playing strength.
Using Rifles, Accuracy
Now we have the boring stuff out of the way, time to get onto the 'hands on' type of things. The main guns you should be using at Gold Nova, is the: AK-47, M4A4 and the P90. M4 or M4A1-S? This depends on the map and situation, if you are holding Middle from Archway on the map 'de_inferno', you would use a M4A4 because of the 30 bullet magazine size, but if you are holding B from coils, then you would use the M4A1-S because it is better for longer range and tap firing. Now for practising aim on csgo, check out a amazing video that 'Nick Bunyun' did.
Now once you have mastered your aim on these maps, watch this video made the the professional player 'Friberg'. He plays for a team called 'Ninjas in Pyjamas; or NIP. This is a sick video to learn from.
'Jiggle Peaking' and how to successfully peak a corner
Ever peaked a corner and have been instantly been shot in the head and have absolutely NO IDEA where from? It's not amateur hour, time to learn how to peak a corner. Lets put you, the reader, in a scenario: you are coming up catwalk on dust 2, and you need to get a kill on A site, so your team can plant the bomb. If you run out, holding A on your keyboard, you will die. Peak too fast, you can't shoot him. How to solve this problem? As you advanced players know, the A & D keys on your keyboard, are known as strafe keys, this means that whilst tapping on these keys, can create a harder target for your opponent to hit, and give you, ACCURACY. Now you know what the term 'Jiggle Peaking' is. Hug the wall on A short, then tap A and D so you can peak the site. Do this aroung any corner, doesn't matter if you don't know where he is, just do it. It will make peaking easier, and if you are hit, you can easily fall back. The csgo youtuber 'TheWarOwl' did a video on perspectives and angles, watch it.
Movement in CSGO and Strafing
Two simple videos explain how to strafe, and why you should to it. Credit to the authors and creators of these videos.
The reason why movement in CSGO is so damn improtant, is because it can save your life. IF you play your first game of the day, you won't have good aim, so movement can help you survive, set yourself up for easy kills and make space, just my movement.
Dealing with Smurfs
What is a smurf? "SMURF means "Experienced gamer posing as a newbie"
There are many reasons as to why someone would want to smurf, some are sort of ok, while others are simply stupid. The worst and most blatant smurfs are the ones who do it for the lulz. These smurfs like to feel powerful over lower ranks and seem to enjoy themselves being accused of hacks, when they're not, it's just that their aim and crosshair placement is superior to others. An example of sort of ok smurfing is when a friend is a much higher rank than you and wants to play with you. While all smurfs are arseholes in their own respect, these smurfs can be considered ok, but can still ruin a game for others.

I respectfully hate smurfing in CSGO and I think Valve need to fix it immedietly, but the sad truth is, it won't be fixed anytime soon. So how to deal with them? Play unpredictible, play smart, and play time. If you are around the corner on long (de_dust2) and the smurf is coming out of long doors, you will see him, before he sees you. This depends on reaction time, logically you should win the fight, but sometime this won't happen. If you are unlucky enough for the smurf to kill you, but tell your team what happened and how much damage you dealt. Smurfing sucks in csgo, but Nova has it worst. 3kliksphilip did a video about smurfing and the situation.
Conclusion and Credits
I really hope my guide has helped on your ticket out of Gold Nova. Credits to all youtubers that I listed and to 'Morriss' who helped and inspired me to make this guide. Thank you.

Yeah, the problem now is that when your whole SoloQ team is filled with prepubescent garbage throwers who can't get 6 month bans fast enough.
Destroyer47 20 Aug, 2016 @ 11:22pm
Add the fact that eventually smurfs need to throw and most of them won't do it in a 5 man or soloQ.

@Angmar i've been through the same, suck at Nova 3-4 and couldn't do shit. I made this guide so other people go though the same thing I did. In your case, try to queue with some friends. Not only will that help by having the same language speakers on your team, but also the people wont be flaming russians, that hate you. :]
