In real wastewater treatment plants, the addition of chlorine as a final disinfection step (which is all it does, kill microbes; it doesn't remove any material) is a continuous process. You may wish to increase the weekly operating cost over that of the default treatment plant to reflect the ongoing cost of the chemicals.
