Introduction
I bought this game in june of 2014. I saw the competetive multiplayer as a challenge and i wanted to become as high rank as i could be. I had no previous experience with competetive CS so i went into the game with no clue on what to do or how to behave. After my first ten matches i was placed in the silver elite rank, so i kept going.

I played more matches and i found some people around my skill level to play with and soon enough i was nova 4. At this point i no longer had anyone to play with (dont ask how, i honestly dont remeber) so i tried soloing. This was a bad idea, as i lost around 10 mathces in a row and ranked all the way down to nova 1. I found some people to play with, ranked up to Master guardian 2 and this is where my bad experience started.

Being a toxic player and self-realization
After my initial spree of games led me to MG2, it was only downwards after that. I would derank from MG2 to MG and even all the way down to Nova, and then i would tryhard until i got my rank back again. For the longest time i was in Master guardian limbo, and i wasn't satisfied with my rank. When i would soloque after ranking up i would always topfrag and still lose the game becuase of temamates, hackers or other stupid reasons. I was mad at the game so i started taking it out on other people. When we would lose games i would call my teamates ♥♥♥♥ (Only if they were mind you, i was a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at the time, but i had some decency left) Even when i won i would yell ♥♥♥♥ like "glad to be done, now i don't have to see these guys ever agin" in the after-game. I didnt like being an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, so i changed. It wasn't easy, but here are some tips on how to stop being a toxic ♥♥♥♥.

  • Mute people. If someone from the other team is taunting you, mute them. Ez fix. I would always get annoyed at people who wrote ♥♥♥♥ in chat to annoy people, so i would argue back. Don't be that guy.
  • Stop talking when someone is playing. Don't act you're a commentator for a pro match. You're not. Nobody wants to listen to your "advice" when they are clutching. Let people suprise you, maybe they know more than you think.
  • If you want to call someone ♥♥♥♥, spare yourself. Talking down on people will only cripple their performance even more. Some people may even outright leave the game. True story. if you want to say something, try to be positive. A boost in confidence may help him perform.
    • Never judge a persons skill from a single match. People have off-games, pointing it out won't make it better.

You might look at all of this like generic copy-paste ♥♥♥♥ you would find on some hippy blog, but if you are a toxic player, i urge you to try this out.
How to rank up
Currently i am Master Guardian Elite, because i now have a good idea how to consistently rank up.
The most important thing about ranking up isn't winning a lot of games in a row, it's beating a lot of skilled opponents. By beating people at a higher elo than you, it shows the system that you are fit to play in that rank. I played a 130 games around MG rank, against MG's and i didnt rank up. But within 10 games or so playing with a DMG player i ranked up almost immidatly.

Here are my rules to ranking up:
  • Dont solo.
  • Never give up on a match. Even if you lose your CT half on nuke you can still win. A good rule is that if one team has a good half, the other team will have an equally good half on the same side 8/10 times if the teams are balanced
  • Add people. you will have more people to play with later. Most people will accept requests like that and suddenly you will never have to solo again.
  • Smurfing hurts your performance. Do not smurf more than you play at your main account. You will fall out of touch and you performance will suffer. I dont have anything against smurfing, but it will keep you from reaching new levels of play.

I come from a pretty CS deprived place so i dont have any friends at MG level. If you are like me you should follow these rules. Please note that this is mostly personal experience, so your mileage may vary.
