How to get Hohenzollern Dynasty as Brandenburg
UPDATED

The event chain has to be followed like this, with the following conditions:

Start as Brandenburg with your Wittelsbach ruler
From here there is 2 different paths:

Historical / Canon Path

1. Switch your vote to Bohemia and hope he gets elected in the first 10-20 Years
2. Bohemia's Luxembourg Dynasty MUST get elected and Wittelsbach HRE Emperor MUST die before you get to -20 "Wittelsbacher investment"
3. You MUST get to -20 Wittelsbacher investment (bottom option that starts at -15) so the Wittelsbachs will leave Brandenburg
Avoid the Askanier pretender event if possible (it's RNG) but it's not the end of the world.
Pick the historical option, if "WIttelsbacher Investment" modifier gets removed, you have to reload or restart.
4. You MUST have Bohemia give you one of his sons as Ruler (Jindrich of Luxembourg Dynasty, usually) which requires "Jehan The Blind" to be Emperor
5. Bohemias ruler ,Jehan The Blind, MUST die with his son, Karel taking over
6. YOUR Luxembourg Dynasty Ruler must die now, resulting in Bohemia getting an event to put Friedrich (his adviser) on YOUR Throne (This is the historical options ONLY FOR THE 2 STARTING SONS of JEHAN)

NON-HISTORICAL / FASTER PATH

1. Get to -20 "Wittelsbach Invesetment" as fast as you can.
2. The starting HRE Emperor from Bavaria (from your Wittelsbach Dynasty) MUST SURVIVE until you reach -20 "Wittelsbach Invesetment".
IF HE DIES JUST PROCEED WITH THE HISTORICAL ROUTE
3. The moment you get the event after reaching -20 "Wittelsbach Invesetment", press the only option and TAG SWITCH to the Bavarian Emperor.
4. in 1-3 Month ticks, Bavaria gets the event to replace Brandenburg's ruler. Here you MUST PICK the option to go with an EXPERIENCED ADVISOR (3rd Option, I think).
It is IMPORTANT you tag switch and pick this option yourself because for Bavarian AI, this is NOT AN HISTORICAL OPTION, SO THE AI WILL ALWAYS!!!! PICK SOMETHING ELSE.

Now Tag switch back to Brandenburg, the game will always generate "Friedrich von Hohenzollern" in these outcomes who will ALWAYS be 30 years old, NO MATTER WHEN you finish the event chain.

Tag Switch to the countries you get the events with to improve your outcome (like to Bohemia or Bavaria) and pick the response option you want, yourself (can take 1-3 months for the event to appear) . You can do this by enabling tag switching in the game rules and then hold CTRL+Left Click to switch country
Additionally, type:
AI ( to disable AI when you tag switch and dont want the AI to ruin your country while you are gone)
kill tag (kill BOH)
to kill Bohemias ruler via console to make it faster or trouble shoot the event chain yourself

If these things happen in your game, then you should be able to make it happen.
RNG is involved so i suggest either lots of saving and restarting will be happening.

This is the Event ID for Bohemia to give you Friedrich von Hohenzollern:
flavor_bra_dynasty.1201.a
flavor_bra_dynasty.1200
To open in-game console type
-debug_mode
Into your Launch Options in Steam

Leave me comments so i can update and make this more accurate

So I was messing around in my game and found an id for at least one of the events to increase neglect. here it is: event flavor_bra_dynasty.4. This will do the robber barons one, which you can use to increase it. Might be good to know.

I updated the guide and added an additional path to take (that i discovered), to make it more consistent, thanks to the input of some of you, as well.

ok thanks for clarifying, the event ID i posted was the one debug_mode said it would be. Weird. I will change it.

Btw, real event id for going straight to getting hohenzollern is: event flavor_bra_dynasty.1200. Thought you should know. "flavor_bra_dynasty.1201.a" does nothing. Says it isn't real.

From what i can tell, there is certain scenarios where it cant happen anymore
that's why it's recommended you switch control to that country and pick event options yourself and speed things along via console commands by killing their rulers off.

It can be annoying with lots of save scumming, but this way i reduced the restart amounts by A LOT.

Thanks for this. Note that I get Luxembourg in my throne around 1360 as first emperor refused to die for a long time. Now I am waiting death of my current Luxembourg ruler to get hohenzollerns. I hope there is no coded "can't happen past x date" as I am aproaching 1400's

Historically, The Wittelsbach's ruled Brandenburg till 1348 where The "false Waldemar" was put of the throne.
It wasn't till 3 years later he was found out and The Wittelbachs were put back on the throne of Brandenburg.
it wasnt till the 14th century when The house of Luxembourg started influencing brandenburg to get their vote to become emperor of the HRE and when they did get in power is when they put Fredrick VI of Holenzollern on the throne of Brandenburg for his help and support of their dynasty in 1411, and in becoming The ruler of Brandenburg, Moved the capital to Berlin.
feel like it happens way to fast in game or you kinda miss your shot after 1370-ish
Honestly until they change it, the Tuetons overall have better buffs and is the better option late and early game to form prussia.
But again it fells wrong not doing Brandenburg into Prussia, It does have a vibe that you dont get with the tuetons, in EU5 and in EU4

Hi, thanks for the really nice guide kgmi!

I wanted to mention for anyone interested in doing this on historical/ironman, you can just become a vassal of whoever is the HRE emperor after losing the neglect modifier and replacing your ruler:

This basically skips the whole event chain above. By becoming a vassal of the emperor, you trigger the same final event. Once you do, you get Friedrich von Hohenzollern in charge, and you're released instantly.

This means you don't need to pay any attention to when you get rid of the Wittelsbacher Neglect modifier, or who's put in charge after.

Personally I've always been able to do this with Bohemia and you can easily get their acceptance up through: high opinion, sharing a border, not being a target of a coalition. Changing your court language to Czech can also give you +10 acceptance.

Might take you a bit longer than the event chain version, but thought I'd mention it since it's simple and worked really well for me every time!

Thanks for testing it Miskatonic !
So other Emperors can also give you Hohenzollerns

Yeah it's the historical option for Bohemia, that's why he will always pick it and is the most reliable way. I will add Tag switching to the guide, since i did this too, during troubleshooting.

Thanks for the guide. I got the -20 neglect when Bavaria is still the emperor and he kept sending a relative to rule which was driving me mad. When I tag switched to the emperor there was an option to send a hohenzollern but it wasn't the historical option so he would never choose it.

It feels way too RNG to make sure you don't get -20 neglect until Bohemia becomes emperor. You should get Hohenzollern guaranteed at -20 neglect.
