What has changed with the new patch?
Achievements now require all ship classes to be used for each chapter. Boss battles are now more intense and can become a prolonged slugfest.

Why are you writing this guide?
I enjoy helping others by writing about technical topics to a higher standard and provide key findings for a higher chance of success!

Who is the intended audience?
The guide is for everyone, but much friendlier to new players. Everything will be explained to be on the same level as those who are the most experienced. The writing will be easy to follow with plenty of screenshots for those who are too lazy to read everything!
Difficulty Disclaimer
The guide below is very strongly recommended to be read first, before continuing:

Such comprehensive information helps to better understand the officer's full functions, including ship abilities during battles.

Note: Each officer's value will be weighed on both ship abilities and skills.
Understanding Expedition Expertise
All battleship classes will have the option(s) to retreat during any planetary expedition, based on their current level of subsystem. Some start with fully upgraded systems and some do not.

Note: Certain classes like the Geno and Kronos have a max level 1 (no access to Intel Broker Market).
The Intel Broker Market
Only level 2 of Expedition Expertise will unlock the Intel Broker Market.
At max level of 3, the intel cost is cheaper at 20 scrap versus 30 scrap at level 2.
Determining Resource Skills
The Officer who has the highest resource extraction will serve as the baseline.
The comparison examines a fresh set of different skills that still yield resources.
Such predictions are marked with the green scrap symbols with standard deviation shown as yellow question marks. Random chance does play a role and sometimes the green scrap symbols are shown as yellow question marks.
Intel Market Tricks
Any Officer who has the highest resource extraction must do a dry run first.
The exact missing skills will be revealed. especially Artifacts that require 2.
The game must be exited through Alt & F4 before going beyond the Extraction Point.
When restarting, the exact skills needed can be purchased from Intel Broker Market without taking a chance to waste scrap.

Note: Same can be done for Commando Survival but each Intel is worth as much as 2-3 of them.
Original Vanilla Method
The Geno and Kronos battleship classes must rely on the use of Special Officers and/or versatile regular Officers to compensate their lack of access to the Intel Broker Market. Such extra skill or two will allow more resource extraction from early expeditions before more is recruited.
Officer Spotlight: Takeshi Sung
He is arguably the best officer with the most skills of 4, at the expense of no ship ability.

Starting a new chapter with this officer will yield more rewards without having to recruit more or reducing the reliance on the Intel Broker Market.
Epilogue
The best Special Officer (above) should be reserved for the most difficult chapters like the 3rd and 6th (second hardest) to have a less costly method of doing expeditions.
