CSGO Headshot Tutorial and Warmup
By duck
Thank you for taking the time to read my first CSGO guide. If you enjoyed this guide, leave a rating and a comment below.

This guide will cover how to 1-tap with weapons such as the AK-47 and the Desert Eagle. It will also go over burst-firing, tapping, spraying, and how to warm up with these techniques. Ultimately, after you finish this guide, you will get more headshot kills and kill enemies quicker. With that stated, let's begin.

Intro
Hi, my name is venom. I've been playing CSGO since 2014 and at the time of writing, I've accumulated over 4,100 hours in CSGO. While I no longer play actively, at my prime I used these tips to improve my aim and reach Supreme. If you follow this guide, I guarantee you will see not only your aim improve, but also your headshot rate dramatically increase.

If you aren't familiar with CS:GO, this guide may be a bit advance, but I promise if you stick with these principles, you will quickly progress.
Spraying, Burst-firing, and Tapping
Rifles like the M4A4 and AK-47 can be used 3 ways: spraying, burst-firing, and tapping.

Spraying
How many times have you died spraying an opponent who instantly kills you? Spraying is what every new player wants to do by instinct, but shouldn't do. Spray incorrectly and you'll get killed. But spray correctly, and you'll get kills.

Every weapon has a spray pattern. To control the spray pattern, simply do the opposite of the spray pattern. Usually, this means just pulling down for most of the spray. For rifles like the M4A4 and AK-47, the first 10 or so bullets are in a straight line; therefore, you can just pull down when spraying. This is good when you have not mastered the full spray pattern and in most cases, you only need to use the first 10 bullets to kill the enemy. Spraying is commonly used for close range to medium range distances. Here is an excellent video explaining spray patterns by The War Owl.

Burst-firing
Burst firing consists of making bursts of 2-4 bullets. This is good for long range to medium range distances. The first 1-4 bullets of an AK-47 or a M4A4 are in a straight line and close together. Therefore, to burst fire, you hold down your button for 2-4 bullets and stop. Make sure to pull down a little bit when you do this and aim for the head. This technique works great when using 1 headshot weapons like the AK-47 and the Desert Eagle, but it also works good with 2 shot headshot weapons like the M4A4.

Tapping
Tapping is using a 1 headshot weapon like the AK-47 to 1 click (tap) headshot someone. To do this aim for the head and shoot 1 bullet. This is effective at long ranges making it ideal in spots like Dust 2 A Long and Pit.

Here is another video by The War Owl showing an overview of what we just went over.
Sidestepping/Strafing
With the technique of burst-firing and tapping comes another technique to make you even harder to hit and mobile. This is called sidestepping/strafing. This is basically using adad but pausing to shoot before moving. Here's a video by the warowl that goes into detail on this technique.

Warmup
Now that you have learned how to sidestep and the 3 ways to use an Ak-47, lets put those skills to the test by warming up.

Finding A Deathmatch Server
Launch CSGO (of course) and find a Deathmatch server by clicking Play in the upper left corner then Find A Game then the Deathmatch tab and choose the set of maps then hit Go.

Warmup
Look at how many players there are, if there are at least 5 players on a team that will be fine. The more players the better since you can get kills quicker. If there is more than 1 bot on a team before you join you should go find another Deathmatch server. Now that you have found a Deathmatch server, join either the Counter-Terrorist side or the Terrorist side. I prefer warming up first on the Counter-Terrorist side because it makes me get used to 2 shot headshots with the M4A4. Now that your on a team, buy the following using the Buy Menu depending on what team you are on.

Counter-Terrorist
  • M4A4/M4A1-S
  • Desert Eagle

Terrorist
  • AK-47
  • Desert Eagle

Weapon Choice
Notice the weapon choice, the Desert Eagle is a 1 shot headshot kill. The AK-47 is also a 1 shot headshot kill. But the M4A4/M4A1-s are both 2 shot kills.

Warmup Rules
For the entire deathmatch, only use these weapons. Your goals should be to:
  • get a score of 500 or higher at the end of the Deathmatch game, if you were playing from the start
  • go for only headshot kills
  • play 2-5 Deathmatch games or stop once you feel warmed up enough

The best method for headshot kills is to Burst-Fire with a rifle and go for headshots with the Desert Eagle. This will teach you to Burst-Fire and go for headshots in competitive instead of spraying. It will also teach you to switch to your side arm (pistol) when you run out of bullets in your main gun. Do not give in to people awping you and making you mad. Over time you will be good enough that the only time you die is because you were killed from behind or teamed up on by 2+ people.

I also want to mention in case someone asks, it's okay if you are not always getting headshots. Sometimes your going to get body shots and that's okay as long as you are making progress.

NOTE: The people usually in Deathmatch are not very high ranked, from what I can tell they seem to be from unranked to Nova 4.

Music
I also like to put on music while I warmup. I've found intense/dramatic music helps me, but any music works will work. The best way to play music for me is listening to music on YouTube with the Steam Web Browser. To use this, enable the Steam Overlay in your Steam Settings then press Shift + Tab to go into the steam overlay. Click on the text at the bottom that says Web Browser. From there I usually go to YouTube and find a song.

You can also use the Steam Music Player located next to the Web Browser text in the steam overlay. I've found from personal testing that the Steam Music Player is okay but it's basically the same as Windows Media Player. The only difference is the Steam Music Player makes you annoyingly add the folder/file location of any songs you want to play in Steam's settings.

Personally, I would avoid using Windows Media Player or iTunes. I've found it extremely annoying to tab out of CSGO to pause songs because I play CSGO in fullscreen and I've found iTunes lags me a bit.

Crosshair and Crosshair Placement
If you're going to warmup and go for headshots, it will really help if you use a static crosshair. I like use a classic blue static crosshair with no dot. You don't have to use a static crosshair, but it helps. Here is my crosshair below:

cl_crosshair_drawoutline "0"
cl_crosshair_outlinethickness "1"
cl_crosshairalpha "255"
cl_crosshaircolor "4"
cl_crosshaircolor_b "255"
cl_crosshaircolor_g "255"
cl_crosshaircolor_r "255"
cl_crosshairdot "0"
cl_crosshairgap "-1"
cl_crosshairscale "0"
cl_crosshairsize "4.5"
cl_crosshairstyle "4"
cl_crosshairthickness "0.5"
cl_crosshairusealpha "1"

On to crosshair placement. When you're warming up, place the crosshair at the head level of the enemy. Try to keep your crosshair at this level so you can easily fire and kill the enemy. As you move around the map, you'll have to adjust your crosshair based on height of the surfaces.

Spots, Angles and What Angles To Hold
While warming up there are a couple of spots/angles I like to hold. This includes B Tunnels/B Site on Dust 2, Dust 2 A Long/A Site and CT Spawn. I find the open spots where people have no cover work best for me. This is an great example outside on the map Nuke. The garage area outside provides not much cover and you can pick off enemiescoming at you from T spawn, Secret, A site, CT Spawn or Heaven. Other good spots include holding angles like on Cache in the room to the side when you go to B from T Spawn.

Another way to picture this is to split warmup into roles: the Camper and the Hunter.
The Camper usually holds angles or hides in a spot and goes for easy picks while the Hunter is aggressive and is constantly roaming the map looking for a kill. I try to play a mix between these two.

Mouse Tips
When warming up, I hold my mouse in the "Claw Grip". This is all personal preference, but that's just what I use.

Other Methods of Warmup
You don't have to use only Valve's CS:GO Deathmatch servers. You can use any Deathmatch server or even aim Deathmatch maps. One of the greatest headshot players in the world, ScreaM, practices on HSMod or Head Shot only servers for hours and hours.

sidestepping is hard now, since when you get shot your speed is dropped a ton which prevents you to move and dodge bullets
